i dont remember exactly how it came off b.c mine was ripped off by a van .but I know the sticky tape that is under there is pretty strong so you might have to pull pretty hard.

you have to use fishing line or something like that to unstick the double sided tape. Or you can just yank the shit out of it. Just so you know, it's gonna look like hell because their are like 9 holes when you are done. I'd suggest leave it on till you're going to get the holes filled.
ok thanks for the help... going out now to get some fishing wire.
I might not fill the hole since i might wanna put them back on, have to see how they looks after taking it off.
Thanks

IMO i don't like the protege without the wing but that's just my opinion, there are no bolts holding my spoiler in place? only tape? dam, that sounds kinda cheap-o, it's ironic that it's hard to rip the tape, maybe they should have used he same tape on our rear lips and those wouldn't come off all the time...

nope, there are bolts, tape and plastic pieces that hold it in, he just said he already took the bolts off.

the ONLY thing?? lol u forgettin about the turbo,RH wheels, body skirts, interior, stereo system,LSD,suspension... the list goes on.
I personally dig the non-spoiler look. (but only on "conservative" colors) saw a silver de-winged msp a little while back... looked very last gen audi A4 like.

if I were ever to have my car painted, dewinging would definitely be in order. how much do you guys think it would it cost to have those holes plugged and painted?

long story short, I had narrowed my choices down to the WRX and Scion TC. Toyota offered me $12,5 on my trade (still 1.5k short) but, though I like the TC, paying a little more (only because of the "negative equity") for a lesser vehicle... well, that just didn't sit well with me. So, it became a WRX or bust... I was hopeful that the Subaru dealership would at least MATCH what Toyota was willing to offer. not even close!! since the WRX is so much more to begin with, that only made the disparity that much greater. I ended up telling them that unless they're willing to at least match the 12.5k, no deal. if there was ever a time for them to be ultra aggressive, the end of the year is the time. but even still, I'm not exactly hopeful at this point.
that being said... keepin the MSP isn't a bad thing. not the "professional" look I was hoping to attain, but oh well! I'll just have to deal with it.

to take off the 03.5 wing you need:
-Rubbing Alcohol or any other compound that breaks down adhesive but is paint friendly
-Fishing line
-Butter knife
-10mm socket and rachet
-Some muscle
Basically all you do it take off the bolts and then start prying. You need to cut away the adhesive however you can. Fishing line works well to break it up a bit, and then cut the excess with a butter knife. There are two plastic plugs that mount into the trunk aswell. You have to pull these out, and it can be either really easy or a big pain in the ass. Then you just have to disconnect the brake light, remove the wing and finish removing all the left over adheive on your trunk.

Mine came off pretty easy after the bolts, it was just lifting it up some to get the wing to snap off those plastic plugs.

Maybe on a different color it would look okay, but my blazing yellow mica wouldn't be the same without the wing.

So is the wing on our cars functional at all, Does anyone think handling performance will be affected in the slightest bit? I have the 03 wing btw, considering removal. I like more of a sleeper look. Does the whole trunk need to be repainted if this is done?

yes and it's expensive like $400+ for them to weld the holes and paint to match the rest of the car. Bondo on a trunk to fill holes is a bad idea. Go cf it's cheaper...

I'm just buying a silver trunk :) You can do the same since you've got a black MSP. sell your wing and buy a trunk. Most used trunks run around 250-350 but I found a hot deal.

Isn't the MSP Black mica paint different than the regular protege? How much is the trunk costing you, and how much can I get for my wing do you think?

The paint is the same, 16W is the paint code IIRC. My buddy(black MSP) is swapping trunks with my sister's black mica DX. I found a trunk for $150, although it may be a shade or two off.. I'll know in a few days when I go get it.
I sold my wing for $250shipped. I would swap delete plates/3rd brake lights with the buyer too. I just bought a tan brake light and painted it black though.
