Well I found refurb headunits (Kenwood MP919's) for sale on Ebay for 190 like new in the box with all accessories and install kits but I went ahead a bought a new unit.
I got a Sony. http://www.msprotege.com/members/yashooa/sony.jpg
It seems to sound quite a bit better than the Kenwood and it has a 4yr warranty :) I got it installed with the warranty for about 280.00$. It was on sale at a brand new Best Buy. They did a very good job of installing it and were really easy to deal with compared to Car Toys or Hawk etc.
They did not charge me for the harness and really cut me a good deal over all.
I gave the broke Kenwood to a friend and he is going to perform the ribbon cable fix. Mazda was going to replace it but I had to FUCKING ARGUE with them and show them the window sticker that cleary lists on it "KENWOOD 450 WATT MP3 PLAYER" etc. And then I had to turn to section nine of my extended warranty plan and read them that, in fact, it does cover all FACTORY installed CD/Cassete players, radios, amplifiers, and speakers. They pissed me off so bad I just told them to fuck off instead.

I'm guessing that KDC-MP919 is the model number of the unit that came with our MSPs. I wasn't quite sure since the instruction manual has three different model numbers on it. Mine was just stolen, so I can't look on the unit itself...any idea what the retail value of those are...I'm having some trouble with the kenwood website? This would be nice to know for insurance purposes...I'm waiting for a cop to call me back right now...

I have a bud who's radio got lifted and they cut him a check for 600 bones so needless to say he got a replacement and kept the change.

sorry but the words "sony" and "sounds good" don't go together when it comes to car audio
