HI first time here I have a 2000 protege 1.6 L 105.000 km when i bought the car used from a dealer it had 56000 km shortly after that i noticed a fairly loud ticking from the engine after 2 trips to complain they found that the timing belt had skipped a tooth they retimed it no new parts used old belt .now i feel i have the same problem it is ticking again. called the dealer they say if it happened again its not under any warranty .but its time to replace belt anyway 96.000 km has anyone else heard of this problem. the first time it happend dealer had no explanation for it whatcould cause this Thanks in advance

If the belt skipped a tooth your car wouldn't run very well if at all.

"Ticking" could be anything from a loose spark plug to rod knock, but somehow I doubt it has anything to do with the timing belt. Too little information, and diagnosing noises over the interweb is futile.

[Car ran fine only noticed the ticking and the ticking was almost all gone after the the repair just wondering if anyone else has had this happen..for sure not rod knock or loose plug
