Ujina 1 & 2 both shut-down as of now.

I bet this was the doing of Toyota or Honda ninjas.

the plants affected (that will affect us) are the Miata, RX8 and MPV....man, at least they didn't et the 3 and 6 plants. Their having trouble meeting demand as it is.

did they say Nissan was japan's #2 auto maker?? I figure toyota, honda, mazda, nissan, suzuki, and a few others are in the running...how does mazda rank? I know their sales are WAY up thanks to the 6,3, and 8.

First assessment I've heard isn't good - possibly 3-4 month shut-down of Ujina 1 (a few hours ago I saw a picture of the fire and it didn't look good either). However, this initial report isn't from Mazda and not official by any means.

If the plant is down for a while, Mazda2/Demio production at Ujina 2 will be upped significantly (because the plant makes that model anyways and has lots of capacity). RX-8, MPV, Miata, and Verisa (JDM model) would all stop though.

Edit: Just to demonstrate that all this info is still VERY new and not official, other reports say Ujina 1 will be back Jan 6 (after Dec24-Jan5 holidays)
