Well the day I knew would come finally has. My head unit's ribbon cable has broken a trace and it now longer works. It is very common to this model and you can fix it yourself I even found a tutorial to do so but fuck it I'm getting a new head unit.
What head unit would you guys suggest in the $200.00 range?

Go to the message boards and then look for the 919 and you will see a flip problem. There is a thread that shows you how to repair the cable.

Dude, that fucker is covered under warranty!! Take it in. I read somewhere that they no longer make that model, and the dealer has to reimburse you for the HU. By the way, that HU lists for $395!

Well, hell! I'd go to www.crutchfield.com (http://www.crutchfield.com) to get an idea, but I think you'll need a little more than $200 for a nice one.

I just had a problem with my radio and I took it to a Mazda dealer and they already ordered another radio. They should be able to install it next week. I wouldn't spend any money on another radio if I were you.

Those 919s don't seem to be the most reliable... my father is on his third right now.

They're not very reliable. Apparantly, the riibon connector fails after the face flips in and out a few hundred times.

Well I have the extended warranty but the Mazda techs were such COCKS about it I told them to stuff it and bought a Sony. I gave the dead HU to a friend so he could fix the cable. My Sony sounds better anyway, not that the Kenwood was bad...
