make sure the pins are clean and lining up properly faceplate and the headunit (ie. when you go over bumps etc.)

rubbing alcohal or hydrogen peroxide is good for cleaning off the contacts of the face plate.

its on its way to death. give it a viking funeral and buy something that actually had quality control tests run on it.

My Kenwood has a feature that lets me kill the lights all the time. Do the lights come on when you push a button and then go off again?

Herbie, the scooby dealer is going to give me $20g for it. With the tax break on a trade it makes it about $22 i think.
Brian, that's an interesting point. It may be a feature that some how self activated. I'll check the manual.

Man, subaru is not gonna make any money on your car. shit. just trade it. your better off.
P.S. your tax break should be more like 3000 grand if they are gonna show 20000 on the trade. 1500 for every 10 g's

Mine has died completely. It does filp around a bit but no graphics or any other functions for that matter.
Go to the message boards and then look for the 919 and you will see a flip problem. In there it shows you how to repair the cable. It may be the same thing that is causing your problem.

I'm about to do the same, mines been out of commission for almost a month, now I get to listen to the engine and my squeeky springs for entertainment. Two friends of mine are salesmen for two different Mazda dealers and they told me they probably won't do anything if I try and take it back. Since it's Christmas I can't afford to buy a new one with buying everyone else gifts so maybe I'll get one in February when I pay back the credit cards next month.

It kinda threw me the first time I tried this too.....but the face does come off. Here's how:
When the face first flips down, put your fingers over the top, so the tips of your fingers are on the back/topmost part of the faceplate. Then, just with your fingertips, pull out straight back....the face will slide off of the motorized, fixed portion. Then, the metal will move pack into place. You can give yourself more time byadjusting your settings to wait longer before masking itself....or you can just trick it by opening the face like you would to insert/eject a CD, then slide it off then.
Don't try to grab the underside with your thumb either (that was my first mistake)....that's the metal part that's fixed & motorized.
As for dying out... mine has done it a couple times (nothing on the display)....I just popped the face off....let it sit for a few hours while I was in work, then popped it back on when I got back in the car & all worked again. It's a weird glitch, but so far it hasn't happened too often. Good luck!

Sounds surgical to me. I'll try it though. I have a service appointment on monday so if I cant get it I'll get the dealer to do it.

Keep it posted, if the dealer does it for you then I'll definately take mine back, I've just been too nervous with all my mods and stuff to pull a warranty card on them, cause if it comes to something serious some day and I need to pull all the mods out I don't want them saying I saw your car before and the reason you blew your engine or some crap is because you increased 30 horsepower over stock with mods and remembering who I am.
