Sup everyone, (blah)
I am thinking about getting a MSP. Just thought I'd post up and see if I can get some info from everyone.
I want a msp but a 2003 cuz i'm not a big fan of the 2003.5 spoiler.
Can you guys give me a few quick links as to where you get your performance parts. Also I know that the msp has a weak tranny. Any thing else that's weak or tends to break on that car? Also how much for a rebuilt or new tranny.

I just got in a accident and think that my spec v is totalled but not sure yet. I should find out later this week.
Thankx everyone

it doesn't have a weak tranny, it just has a shitty LSD that tend to break...other then that they are fine.

cool so where could i get a better LSD?
and i forgot my goal is to be in the 13.7 - 13.8ish range in the 1/4.
is it true that this car has weark internals and that u can't boost past 10 or so psi for everyday driving?

The Quaife is the only real upgrade for the LSD & that's $1500. Like Jeff said, the tranny isn't weak, but the LSD is only attached with 3 spot welds, so it can break easily if you're not careful.

The internals aren't weak, they just weren't designed for boost. You can run 13.7 easily without upgrading internals or tranny, so that shouldn't be your primary concern.

You should also understand the differences between the 2003 & 2003.5 before you try to buy one. You could always swap spoilers if you want, but that's just 1 of several differences they have.

As for mods, check out the stickied thread in the MSP section.

Before you do anything, you should check out the link in my signature & read that thread to determine if the MSP is the right car for you.

thankx, i'm looking at the link right now.
what are the differences in the 2003 vs 2003.5 besides the wing/colors?

Go with the 03'...they are prettier. 13.7's are very easy you need to just be smart with what you do.

Mazda has already released the new version of the lsd. The trick is getting it done under warranty. Or you could do it yourself, I believe it cost me 350$ for the new one.

This is their replacement lsd. They made it stronger by making the lsd function weaker.... it uses F'n M instead of spring force.

the only difference is color, spoiler, and front lip.pedal and shift knob

03 pedals and shift knob says sparco, the 03.5 says mazdaspeed.

the 03 has black shift boot and 03.5 has black boot with yellow stiching.

03 has fogs 03.5 has vents.

03 has circluar exhaust 03.5 has oval shaped exhaust.

I think the rims too. 03 is more sliver then 03.5 i think i am not 100% sure.

I have read about some people taking their stock lsd and welding more spots to hold it together and make it stronger.

slipping clutch is more common on 03s.

That would be a good how to on how to weld you LSD. assuming everybody has a torch in their garage. lol

I'll take my 03 over an 03.5 all day long. I have 40,000 miles, plenty of mods, and no clutch slippage or LSD problems. The car has been to the dealer twice for very minor warranty work...bushings, sub rack padding, a/c flush.

Most of the problems are a result of the user, not the car.

so what's an estitmated price for a 03 or 03.5 w/ about 30k on it?
i think i can get a 03.5 for $15,000 is that a decent deal? or can i do better and that's w/o mods

EDIT: and i've also noticed that a few people or someone, who knows, but anyway people are at like 15 - 17psi.
what do you need to run that much boost besides new rods?

Even though I never get anything confirmed through Mazda, I agree with Dr. Sound, I've driven many MSP's and 03.5's definetly have a stiffer pedal.

I paid 15.9k for mine new...

Paul, I haven't noticed anyone doing 15-17psi except those on built motors.
On a stock motor, it would blow pretty quick.

Besides rods.... you'd probably want to go all out- mroe then likely something else will break if you just do rods (which i consider the bare minimum)

After my motor is built, I'll be doing 15-18psi.

Paul
12-15-2004, 12:12 PM
well if i tear the motor apart what else should i change when i'm in there.
the head studs, gasket, rods. what else? can the crank and pistons handle the psi?
i know that i might later down the line need a bigger turbo and a bigger fuel rail or bigger injectors but i want to get all the main work done first.
do the rods come w/ new bearings?
where is everyone buying the rods and other internals from?

BlkZoomZoom

JDM sam- After the first replacement went very quickly due to a factory defect I didn't see.... This one has held up to countless low 13 second runs and even some serious sized slicks. Plus I beat the ever living hell out of it whenever I drive it. I actually like not having to worry about getting on it around a corner and going to the other side of the road, but get on it in a straight line it will spin right into third on both tires.
