Help!!! My gas gauge went from half tank to hella full overnight. No one put gas in the car. Has anyone else experience this problem? We had this on a previous vehicle and it was the fuel sending unit in the gas tank.

A couple days ago I installed the UniChip. Is there any reason that the fuel gauge should be affected? I hope I don't have to take the damn thing out to have the car looked at.

You didn't drive to the gas station in your sleep did you?:)

Does it stay full?

Maybe someone poured sugar in your tank?

Sorry don't know what to tell you....

Sorry don't know what to tell you....Nope, it was in our garage overnight. I've been thinking... if you 'overfill' the tank regularly, will that screw anything up? By overfilling, I mean that if you fill the tank until the nozzle stops and then add an extra gallon or two... not till it pours on the floor though.

Yeah, it popped up past full from half tank and has stayed past full.

Something broke...the sender unit baffle might have become disconnected?

Is it in the gas tank? Do you think it has anything to do with my UniChip? I hope I don't have to take this to the dealer.

I'd think if it came loose that the tank would show empty since it's not getting anything, but that's just a guess. Maybe a friend copied your car keys while you were drunk and took it out for spin to test the Unichip... That happened to me when I first got my SHO.... My buddy would always return it with a full tank and for two weeks I couldn't figure out what was wrong. Fill your car up and drive it while closely watching your miles. There's also a possibilty that the last place you bought gas from had too much sulfur or something and it messed up the gas level sensor. That happened at a bunch of Shell stations in FL, TX and LA.

I reset the ECU and filled the tank. I'll drive around for a little while and hope the gas gauge works. Hopefully my pops knows how to fix it. I'll keep yall posted if I figure it out.

K, I filled up Thursday and then removed the Unichip saturday night (cause I was having problems... there is another thread about that) and this morning it looks like the fuel gauge is back in action. It's down to 7/8s. (rockon)

i got a good laugh out of this becasue i can pump over a gallon in my protege when it stops the first time. when i was filling my g/f's jetta last month for the first time, i cranked an extra gallon or so into it and when i removed the nozzel all that gas came out! glad she was not with me......
