Haha, funny. Thats the same web site I JUST visited right after I made this thread. I figured they had the headers there, but was just wondering if anyone else might offer them. Im trying to get the header a little cheaper than 300.00 + shipping. I suppose if I can't find it anywhere else, I'll end up buying through OBX racing then. Thanks for the help.

blah blah? the box and invoice were labelled 2016, not 2020. I opened the box prior to shipment and the header was indeed different than the 2020. not to toot my own trumpet here but I've been on these forums long enough and contributed enough for most people to know I wouldn't bullshit them - especially about something that really doesn't affect me.

there is no specific 1.8 liter header - the 2.0 header fits that engine as they are physically identical in those regards.

im thinking about getting this header, but i dont know if its worth the money. to all owners and ex owners of the obx header, do/did you llike your header? is there a noticable difference in power or its the same feeling as adding an intake and exhaust? also, is the gains worth the $200 for the header? i have a mazdaspeed axel back and (soon to be installed)k and n typhoon intake. do you all think i should go for it or leave my car the way it is? thanks for all the info guys and gals

I dont personally have one (waiting for this damned 1.6 to become available) but owners opinions indicate its probably the best bang for buck hp mod out there. The stock exhaust manifold is quite restrictive. I'd take a stab & say you'd probably get as much hp increase as from the intake & axelback combined.

hmmm well i have been forced into a problem here... so i'll let you know about it - my header cracked across the 1st flange, nearly lost the whole exhaust!!! good way to leave a cruise early for a beer at home (naughty)

http://www.msprotege.com/members/ahb11m/DSCF0365.JPG

this crack has now opened up to height of 9mm, and has approximatley 20mm of metal holoding it in place - all i can say is hello diesel!!!!

and after todays efforts, i have nothing in place, so now jsut awaiting my wildcat headers to arrive from johannesburg

dunno - i gave up and got an exhaust made up

cost me au$305 to have it made custom... and its bloody awesome... 4-1 header design, and for a 1.6 l is prolly best to maximise the power

had a look into this one - mate of mine has a pulsar (variation to the nissan sentra) with a CA-16 so power is realatively equal...

if an body wants the measurements i can get these for you

I'll touch base again in another week or two

they supply a lot of muffler shops Australia wide

ahb11m
03-09-2005, 07:10 AM
sorry the measurements

these are in millimetres for accuracy

the pipe at the manifold measures 42x38 (width x height)
this continues out and down 260mm before the first bung hole on the 3rd cylinder....
continues another 420mm until it hits the collector
4 pipes into one collector of 150mm length... this is followed by a gasket to join the rest -

NB this is longer than the original exhaust so will require cut and welding

having said that if you live near an exhaust shop you could insert the mid pipe into extractor and drive to the shop.....if your installing it yourself

oh yeah cylinders 1 and 4 run behind the rest
cylinders 2 and 3 run in the front

Good news all!!! Ken has re-opened Protege Garage!! That means that we might be able to FINALLY get our hands on a couple of those OBX headers for our 1.6s. Before Garage closed down for a while, it was the only place that actually listed the header for the 1.6 after everyone (including some companies) said that it didn't exist!! I already asked Ken a couple days ago if he will be selling the header and he told me that he will but has to find out if its been released or going to be released soon. Can't wait now!!! This will hold me over till I get my HiBoost kit in a year or two!!!

flex pipe is under the car, i mis under stood for s second, i know the what you mean now, the engine in the 1.6l sits higher.. , you would have to measure to see,

ok, just having a quick look, the 1.8 has the ball joint back further than the 1.6 btu the flanges are the same, and teh mid flange is the same too, but the OBX has its own flange anyway!!!

I know it might be a little too much, but what are we to do? There is no sign of the OBX header coming soon and I am bout tired of waiting. I bet these SR Motorsports headers are just as good (if not better) and ready to ship. For some reason, the OBX is in one of those tweener stages: Past the production stage but not quite to the shipping stage. I just can't understand what the hold-up is.. Im dumbfounded (uhm)

Because then he would have to establish himself as a business...in starting a business you need Capital..probably something he doesn't have.

just find a muffler shop that does mandrel bends and get ur pipes bent and welded.. wagner has the flange for our engine, 50 bucks.. i think.. and the muffler shop should charge about 100 to 200 for bending them and welding them..

Check it out peeps!! I got a reply from Dave @ OBX Racing and this is his response:

The question was about when the 1.6 liter header would be released...

" We will release the 1.6L Protege header by first week of June.

Thanks

Dave-OBX
General Manager"

There ya go folks!!! The price SHOULD be around $300.00 plus shipping (according to the OBX Racing website). Can't wait till June!!

prolly lil to none, from what i am seeing most basic upgrades just change the sound of the engine, but who knows the restrictive headers we have might be the cause of it..

I got another response from Dave @ OBX Racing and this is what he said:

" For retail sales, service, discounts and additional inquiries, please
contact: www.tuningdepot.com Their phone number is: (650) 228-1461. Please
ask for Eric or Jeff for special internet discount prices.

Thank you

Dave-OBX "

So all we have to do is call one of those guys and ask about "special pricing" and "discounts". I think after all the delays and false anticipations, we should get a BIG discount!! Maybe knock off like 50 or 60 dollars? That would be sweet!!
