Today when I went to use the keyless entry on my 2002 Protege LX, nothing happened.

So as I open the door i notice that the lights on the instrument cluster that indicated the door being open are dimming and the dome light didnt turn on. Then the car doesnt even try to crank at all.

I pop the hood and I hear a clicking noise from the fuse box, I disconnected the battery and tried to remove the 100A fuse but i couldnt get it lose, and disconnecting the battery didnt help and the car still made a ticking noise from the fuse box.

Anyone know what my problem is?

Thanks.

Im going to try to jump start it with another car when I get a chance.

Also do you have any idea why the 100A fuse wouldnt budge? is it susposed to be able to be removed?

what does that mean?

As soon as I can locate some jumper cables im gonna try to jump the car with another, but I was just curious to see if anyone knew why the fuse box was making a ticking noise.

it means he's subscribing to the thread so he can see how this turns out.....so he'll know what's up if it happens to him.

Oh. ok cool.

Well im gonna see if I can jump it tomorrow morning but still if anyone can answer my two questions.

1) Is the 100A fuse at the far left of the fuse box (if your looking from the front of the car) susposed to come out?
2) Also why would the fuse box tick if the battery is dead? When I disconnect the battery it kinda stopped once.

the only reason why you heard the fuse box ticking, which is a fuse turning on and off. Click ON and click OFF. Thats how relays work. The only reason why one of the relays did that is because there was not enough juice coming from the battery to get the car running. Therefore, the relay saw a lack of power from battery and went to closed position. Good to hear that you got it cranked up. Did you leave the lights on night before you found out your car wont start?

ya :( I had them on in the morning and didnt realize I never turned them off when I got home from classes, and the they were left on the rest of the night so the battery is pretty much toast. It wont even crank up anymore with a jump start so im guessing the battery is completely dead.

Im just going to go buy a new one tomorrow.

the reason fuse wouldn't budge is cause its bolted down by two 10mm bolts on each side of the fuse

yes optima batteries are very very good. Just make sure you will read up alot on these batteries. They have different kinds, like deep cycle and other thing (forgot the other one) besides 3 different colors.

yeah, there are alot of choices, the deep cycle sounds really good, but whats up with the colors, couldent find out anything about that.

red = regular
yellow = deep cycle
blue = marine, (also deep cycle)

not sure of the main differences between yellow and blue.

Just check out the specs on their web page. Seems there is more than enough info there to make an educated decision.

most people i've seen when i used to work at a car stereo shop would pick the yellow top optimas as opposed to the red tops only cause i think more cca's and more amps in general to help power their unsightly 3k watt stereos.
