the only palce your going to find a factory supported Jl subwoofer is in a retail store. Most people that list them online will call you up after about a week and tell you they are out of stock. Then they will try to sell you some POS in its place.

You live in L.A! Just go to www.jlaudio.com (http://www.jlaudio.com) then find the dealer closest to you. If you're using the stock amp, I reccomend the 8w3v0. It will most effeciently handle the power. Anything more will result in poor sound, more money and an overheated amp.

I bought the 8W3v2 for $129.99 with 2yr replacement warranty from Tweeter here in town. I had to wait 2 weeks for it to come in but I couldn't find a better price anywhere else. If you'd like one I'll see if they still make them....the salesman told me that they dont make that model anymore but they had a few left in their warehouse in TN.

I think he's full of crap. Most stores just carry the dual 4 ohm and give people shit if they ask for any other one. To my knowlege all 3 types of the 8W3v2 are still in production
8W3v2D2
8W3v2D4
8W3v2D6
and this would be....?
Rockford fosgate series 2 8" sub
89.99 at full retail and probably around $70 online at various "pound me in the ass" websites. (cool)

so firsty, rockford or JL?
also if JL, then which one out of the ones u listed?
so firsty, rockford or JL?
also if JL, then which one out of the ones u listed?Rockford has a higher DB potential, Jl has better SQ. These are gneralities and how they will play out in the crappy MSP box is anyones guess. I know that JL subs will hold up well in the pressence of air leaks without a ton of losed SQ, the rockford may not be the same. I always wonder with subs that look like the rockfords, if I just spent $80 for a shinny basket a $9 for a radio shack driver.

so shich JL out of these would work best with the stock amp and enclosure?
8W3v2D2
8W3v2D4
8W3v2D6
so shich JL out of these would work best with the stock amp and enclosure?
8W3v2D2
8W3v2D4
8W3v2D6The D4 will keep the amp seeing the 8 ohms mazda intended because it is inverted and can't disapate heat aswell as it should.
D2 will present a 4 ohm total load to the amp to get the most power out of it but will risk thermal failure do to the amplifiers mounting.
Remount the amp and get the D2 (thumb)
That way you'll have 125 watts rms from the amp to the sub that can handle 125 watts rms

If your reloacting the amp, the dual 2 ohm
If your not, the dual 4 would be best for the amp heat wise but the dual 2 will still work.
There are no online JL dealers. Anything you buy will not have a JL warrenty. ALthough JL's warrenty is only 90 days unless a dealer installs it. However, the full retail on the sub is only $129. Why throw away a warrenty for $10 which is probably before shipping.

Tell them you'll only buy it if they install it so you get the year or so warrenty. It will only take a few minutes as its basicly a direct replacement son once they see the car they shouldn;t be too put off by this. Although I don't think the grill will fits back on.

Actually all you have to do is pull on the grill and it comes right off. You just have to make sure not to seperate the rubber gasket(?) that goes around the sides of the grill. Here is a few pictures to explain:

By the way the subs sounds really good. I wanted the JL Audio 8W3v2D2 but couldn't justify paying $130 for an 8 inch. So I just decided to buy the RF Stage 2 single 4 ohm sub. I bought it for $65 at a place here in Houston. It hits pretty hard for an 8 and I have yet to have the amp overheat. You can also reuse the stock grill with this sub. The bling bling magnet cover has to be removed in order for the sub to fit and a little groove has to be cut out inside the box to the inner baffle to clear the rather large, awkwardly placed connectors. Other than that it's a direct replacement. Here is a pic of what I mean:

how doest it sound compared to stock woofer?

the JL sub has a large foam ring around the top of the sub that won't allow the stock grill to seat back down like it used to. Maybe someone's modified it to fit??
p.s. that pic is l33t!!
I like RF stuff too but I asked arouind and the concensus was the best sub for a MSPO box is the JL....so thats what I bought.

Hey I totally agree that the JL sub is hands down better if you're willing to spend the money. I decided not to at this time(believe me I really wanted the JL sub) and just get something a little less expensive. The RF sub plays very smooth and deep. My stock sub box is almost perfectly sealed with this sub in place. This sub has absolutely no problems playing Rap and Bass music. Believe it or not I think it has sounded it's best with country music. I was surprised at how much bass it puts out with a little Brooks and Dunn. Mind you I'm not much into country, but damn!! It also does very good with old school alternative music like Depeche Mode. I just can't complain. However, take into consideration that I chose the 4 ohm sub, so I'm using the amps full capacity. It just rounds out the whole stock system better having more bass than the stock kenwood sub. Plus no amp overheating problems here.

I believe the sub you're talking about is either the 8w0 or the regular 8W3 as they don't make an 8W3V0. The sub I was wanting was the 8W3V2, and the cheapest authorized dealer I found here in Houston was Tweeter and they wanted $129.00 plus I would have to wait 2 weeks for it to come in. I didn't even want to mess with online dealers as they are not authorized to sell JL products and thus no warranty. I bought my RF sub for $65.00 out the door IIRC. If we're talking about the same sub then that is a steal as long as there is a warranty involved.

No such subwoofer exists. The orignal W3's wer just that 8W3's, although sometimes called v1's.
Now they are 8W3v2's.
The 8W0 (there is no V1 or V2) retails for exactly the price you have listed.
My guess is you purchased an 8W0

.
You can remove the rubber surround from the mouting surface of a JL subwoofer. Just be sure to use foam tape to seal the subwoofer when mounting.

whhere did u get it for that much?I got it in Memphis at Stereo One. In fact, I asked for the 8w3v2 (139.99), but he said that would be a waste, and would be more likely to burn up the amp. I had no reason to disbelieve him since he was saving me money!

My guess is you purchased an 8W0Yep, my mistake... 8w0. Anyway, it's 4 ohm, so I've almost doubled my output, but even cranked up in the Mississippi heat, I've never had any heat issues. It seems to match the stock amp very well.
The 8W0 should. JL is the most conservate rating company when it comes to subwoofers that I know about. I personaly have beaten on an 8W3 with 300 watts rms. The 8W0 is more then capable of matching the factory amp. The 8W3 I personaly like a little better simply because its more capable if you ever remove the factory setup and build a new box and add another subwoofer.
Both are really good subs. ALthough with 8's, its best to have 4 (cool)

I used a Adire Audio Koda 8" Sub. I think I paid $65-70 shipped for it. It sounds really good for a 8" sub. It is also a direct bolt in.
