yah, nirvana...

So. I got my 2001 ES standard a little more than a year ago, year and three months to be precise. Never was more happy with a car than this one. Drives awesome, handling, power (when alone in the car :) well everything. I've put 90K on it since I got it (total 130K). Hmm.. in a year!

anyways, almost no service at all, suspension great, regular oil changes, brakes once, clutch was getting worn, but that's it. Had to fix front bearing when bought it, but that was left over from previous owner. You get the picture car is nice. But, week ago I was getting off the hwy and surprise, engine knocks.

So, suddenly, oil low, any higher than 3k rpm fucked up noise. So I knew, I have very little time to get new engine. I drove home, then mechanic, then home and again mechanic. By that time (about 50km later) engine had no power, oil gone again, noise was soo bad that it seemed that there is a construction team trying to take engine apart with sledge hammers and saws... Anyways, engine was loosing it, almost stalling, and as I was parking it, gave it a little of gas so it won't stall and it blew up breaking hole though the wall :) ... ...

now.... I'm getting used engine
750 CAD; 26K - (yeah right); 2001 2.0 (was hit from the back)
new clutch I think is a good idea so I don't have to do it again later...
but does anyone has any other suggestions? I cannot go all out, cause if I had more money I'd probably be driving mazda speed or something else.

anyways. I hope I didn't bore you with very long post.
cheers
T.

ah, forgot to add, low oil light came up when noise begun, and engine light came up when it was already screewed for a day .. he he... talk about warnings...

well, on monday I'm going to go strip off what is left on it... intake, bunch of sensors, manifold... also, I was thinking to save header, maybe for later work to it, no sence in keeping whole thing since not just crankshaft is gone, but there are holes in lower block (boom07)
you know spare pulleys, whatever looks usable, might find some need for it later... I still have my old clutch and flyweel... so.. like usefull things to put on a shelf and never touch them again :)

that is it..

"We are re-opening the hive. I want to know what really went on down there"

I'd be able to post pictures and tell you exactly on monday when I'll take old one apart. IMHO, cause of hight rpm driving on regular oil (synthetic now) I probably burned a little more oil that time, that caused wearing of rod bearing... (not too sure), but that I think lead to knocking noise, quite suddenly actually... then when it was pretty much dying gor next approx 75km, low compression and shit, engine started to stall, so next day, on it's last breath I was parking it in front of garage, gave "little" gas and it just blew up...
