View Full Version : Protege Garage Closing Down

Captain KRM P5

After quite a bit of debate, discussion, agreement and disagreement, Bryan and I have made the choice to close Protege Garage. I won't bore anyone with the details or reasons behind the decision, but neither of us feels satisfied with the direction of the business or comfortable to turn the business over to someone else in its current state. Weighing the benefits against the negatives has led us to this decision with much anger and frustration, but we both know that even with 100% of our attention (which at these points in our lives cannot provide) it would not become what we need or want it to be.

We will complete the last round of buys - those being the BEGi fmic kits and the REV wheels buy. I will also consider one on one orders via PMs or emails until 12/31 but the store front site will be going offline very soon.

I want to personally thank everyone who gave us the chance to do this, to experiment and learn from the challenges, successes and failures. Your support, purchases and feedback have made all the difference.

Sincerely,
Ken Miller

This sucks Ken. You were about the only place I trusted to buy from after my problems with Wagner. I hate to see you shut down. It was my plan to find one vendor that I could trust, and buy all my future parts from them. Thanks for all the help. I had plans to buy many more parts from you in the near future. Well, back to alex and axronline.com :)

Hey Ken,

I've sent you 2 PMs regarding the reciept for both my header and REV wheels, also the missing manifold gasket, I just came back from Conneticut and I couldn't install the header (missing manifold gasket), nor could I bring it across the border cuz I didn't have the receipt for it! Kinda wasted my time travelling all the way down to Conneticut, but oh well. Please get back to me on these issues!

Thanks!

Matthew
11-29-2004, 02:23 AM
you reuse the stock manifold gasket when you install a header, unless this one is different than any other header or turbo manifold ive seen.

pdhaudio83
11-29-2004, 02:25 AM
^ Agreed.

Matthew
11-29-2004, 02:28 AM
actually, correction. its gaskets. about 3 of them IIRC. use copper gasket spray on them when you install.

I bought the exhaust gasket (the one that attaches to the mid-pipe) from my mazda dealer, but didn't buy the manifold one cuz it was supposed to come with the header. I don't know.. but I like doing things the right way the first time around.

It's not a big deal. Use the stock manifold gasket. You only really need to replace it if it gets damaged when you remove the stock manifold. Don't lose sleep over this.

Hey Jo Jo! I'm not trying to say it was a big deal homie, the fact of the matter is, I wasn't really planning on installing the header in Conneticut, considering I didn't have access to a garage, and I'd have to do the install on the street (no driveway either) Its just that if it came with the manifold gasket and the receipt, then I wouldn't have a problem bringing it back to Canada with me! Get it!? Got it!?... Good!!

Reciept for what reason?! I brought back 2 of them when I went to Chicago and met up with Ken. I threw them in my car and drove home. Never once did they ask at the boarder. When they asked me if I had anything to declare, I told them I bought some smokes and booze at the Duty Free, and off I went, no questions. I had Ken write on the boxes though in marker $99 USD just in case, but never needed it.

Well, your situation is a little different than mine. My cousin had to bring back 2 sets of springs, alignment kits, and some other goodies for his ride, plus we both went shopping while we were in the States, so our total costs of goods were a little more than what we were allowed to bring back with us. And if we didn't have the receipts for everything we bought, we would've had to pay taxes on their "book value" (which we all know is ridiculously overpriced). We only had to pay taxes on $155 USD, so hence the need for receipts.
