well right now me and my good friend are starting a company to fab mostly 4x4 parts but we are also going to make a bunch of new parts for my car.
so i was wondering if anybody besides me wanted a fully bolt in harness bar, no cutting or welding will be required! it will connect b-pillar to b-pillar with apx a 6 in bend so you can still recline your seats. plus will have a v type support to the base of the b pillar. pics will come after mine is done this weekend
once again this is only to guage intrest so dont jump down my throat abt not being an authorized vendor
we have been fabbing stuff for the last 3 yrs roughly just not selling anything,
rob
just pm me for questions or post.......
price will be determined soon

i might be. i have been thinking of that for a while. if well designed it would be really benefitial to the p5's to firm up the chassis

a good height for it would be around 6-10" above the height of the rear seat ass part. that way you'd avoid the rear passenger's knees hitting the bar in an emergency, it'll also allow good front seat movement, the bar could be straighter (more strength), and it would be almost half way between the floor and the roof

that is the plan, try to keep as much room for passengers .... i will post pics once mine is done

it will be strong like atleast a strut bar right? (preferably roll cage strength)

it will be built to nhra regs for the harness bar, very strong plus with the ability to use it with a legal race cage

sweet! Subscrizzle! We could use this as a mouting point for 4pt or 5pt harnesses correct?

yup.......... it is a fully bolt in piece that bolts to your stock seatbelt mounting points. but you can still use all the plastic pieces. pics will be posted tonight.

That seems a little high for harnesses. Please tell me that goes lower. And that looks a bit unsafe for the rear passengers since that bar is at eye level to them.

no this one is that high, we wanted to test the fitment and how easy you can get it into the car w/o removing anything. this was just a prototype and once it is in my car tomorrow we will redseign accordingly............ plus i wanted mine high with a 10 in arc to clear my seats............

that looks really good (besides for being way too tall, but you already know that). how much does that weigh, and what will the projected cost be?

finished pics......(lick)
i know everybody wants them lower but i think i am going to leave mine where it is..... it makes the harness's alot more comfortable. in a week or 2 i will make another one abt 6-8 in lower..... so tell me what you think

that looks sick. If I had racing seats and racing harness and didn't just jump in NIV's group buy for the reverse cowl cf hood I would jump all over this. good job

Cosmetically looks nice, but it's way too high to be safe. Look here (typical harness instructions):

well like i said they will be made lower, but i like mine where it is, i just went out and it is a hell of alot more comfortable then having the harnesses drop down in the back......

Wouldn't it be a lot easier to make and install if you made the two braces going to the floor removable? Also make them connect to the rear seat mounting bolts on the inside part of the seats instead of the outside. With a bar that thick you can almost run the braces straight down from the harness bar to the mounting bolts right on each side of the center console. That would make the bars lighter, give you more room for the back seat passengers since nothing crosses by where their kness go, and it makes the install much easier since it makes th whole thing 3 pieces. Take a look at the Sparco bars for the WRX (which should bolt into the Proteges w/o any modification). Thats what I'm talking about. They use hiem joints on each end of the downward braces so that the braces don't have to be perfectly aligned. They are just two bars with a swivel at each end. similiar to our swaybar endlinks, just bigger.

Werd. But to each their own i guess.

ok, since mine is apx 60 degrees with my seats in my every day driving position..... but once i put my seats up to where i race the are less then 5 degrees...... so i would rather be set-up proper for race...... so the lower harness bar by that theory would be unsafe for a pretty much straight up racing seat.... pretty much i have to compromise and nomatter what it is 100 times better then where i mounted them before.

Just to clarify, pic below. Don't get me wrong, it looks like great work, and in my mind it's better to have them too high, but it would have to be much lower in my car. And I'll also admit to being something of a hypocrite, since I have Schroth harnesses bolted to the rear lap belts which is also not ideal, athough acceptable in their design parameters. Eventually, I'll have a 4 point roll bar with a harness bar set to fit me in my car.

mine used to be attached to the back of my seat frame so where mine are now is much better. like i said i am in the works of designing a new setup which will be apx 6 in lower. sound abt the right height for everybody?? if i go anylower then that it might comprimise using the stock bolting points

Oh yeah, I remember that, you ARE better off now. You wouldn't have to change the mounting point necessarily, just angle the bar down. You could even make it kinda like what Xelderx was saying plus have it bolt to the mounting plate. That way it'll fit most cars fine, but it could be custom fit with minimal modification. Might not look as "finished" though.

or maybe a few in lower, i cant decide yet...............btw this didnt get rid of legroom really since it sits 1/2 an in behind my front seat at the same angle.........

i tihnk idealy it should be like an inch lower then the pass through in the seats for the harnesses. the new location mark is pretty good since all the seats are a ta different. if they use the same type of support rails like sparco does then there will be enough adjustability built into the bar for it to work with just about anyones setup
