Does anyone know of a way to make the stereo keep audio settings for a while after the battery has been unplugged? It would be cool to be able to work on my car, and not have it reset the stereo so much. I am thinking maybe if some kind of capacitor or little backup battery was used(like a 9v in some alarm clocks) that would only send power to the radio, and just enough to keep the settings in memory, it woudn't have to be able to power the radio on though.
Anyone know how this could be done? Would it be very complicated?

Would be nice.....i bet you would have to have some extra power supply powering the radio like an alarm clock has with the 9V battery. I have my battery disconnected so many times and hate screwing with the radio afterwards........

I wonder how much current it draws when off. Maybe I will play around with my multimeter today after work and try to figure it out. If it is low enough, I think a simple capacitor in parallel might be sufficient.
But I think the power could still be drained out of the cap from the other electrical systems in the car, I think a diode placed somewhere could stop this, but I never was too good with electronics.

I don't think a capacitors is going to do the job unless its large. A simply 12 volt battery will work. You could aslo use an alarm system designed back up battery.
For a typical battery:
Ground the battery
Use a diode to isolate the radios power wire and tap the batteris power wire in between the diode and the radio on the radios power wire. Put a switch on the battieris power wire.
The diode is to keep the battery from feeding power to other electronics.
Now when you go to do work, just disconnect the battery and THEN flip the switch. I am not sure how a typical 12 volt battery will like being paralleled with the cars battery.

figured you would see this 1sty, thanks!
