On the 2005 Mazda6 models are the side view mirrors now foldable? I know for a fact that on '04 models they are not.
Also I read somewhere that the Mazda6 ('04 and '05) have a maintenance indicator. I haven't seen it on my car, where is it?

Yeah i have an '04 as well but the changes I describe are for 2005. It supposedly has the folding mirror and maintenance indicator.

If the 05's had folding mirrors, everyone would have how-to threads on retrofitting them already.
As for the maintance indicator....who the hell wants that? Its basically a light that goes on everytime your "supposed" to visit the dealer, and usually can ONLY be reset by a dealer.
An oil life monitor would be decent, but even those are flawed. Do a UOA if you want to do an extended OCI, or just follow the standard intervals outlined in your owners manual (every 5k for normal driving, 7.5k for mainly highway). Its been proven by the 30 or so Mazda 6 UOA's that the standard 5w-20 motorcraft semi-syn can make it to 4-5k without a depleted TBN....

Crossbow, I saw on one of those independent car comparison sites that the Mazda6 2005 had folding mirror and a maitenance indicator. In fact, it said that the '04 also had a maitenance indicator but didn't have folding mirrors. Now I'm not saying that such an indicator is useful, I was just surprised to see that they said it had it as I had not noticed it.
As for the folding mirrors, I had looked at '05s in the showroom but didn't specifically look to see whether or not they had folding mirrors so was just curious on that as well. Few people have the '05 models. I'm not even sure if anyone here has one yet, so it's quite possible the how-to threads would not have been created yet. On the other hand, I have the '05 brochure and there's no mention of folding mirrors.

russ,
The european 6's (Atenza's) have folding mirrors and such features as you described.
Thus if you read a review of an 05 Atenza, you'd see such features listed.
The Us versions don't have working sidemarkers, no folding mirrors, no nav, no hid's, and no 178 bhp Mazda 6i.

Ouch, that's quite a shaft that we're getting. I heard we pay a lot more for our cars too. What's the reason for this? Why is the atenza so much better?

Actually they pay alot more for the cars. We get shafted because of union stuff and us safety regulations.

How do Unions screw us over? The same with safety regulations?

Not going over there in terms of unions. But crossbow is entirely right about US safety regs. If you compare a N. American-spec Mazda6 with an Euro one (or Japanese Atenza), you'll notice that:
- N. American-spec rear bumper sticks out more
- N. American-spec has amber turn signals in front bumper
- the 'bulge' on rear-taillights because N. American-spec requires a side reflector
All 3 above are because of safety regs.

Makes me wish that the Mazda6s were built in Japan like the 3s. The 3s have a lot more features and not just the major ones, but the minor things here and there too.

just because the NA spec 6 doesn't have those features doesn't mean you can't retrofit them. I've seen a few 6's floating around with nav. (naughty)
