Abs

Was ABS optional equipment on the 2002 p5. I ask because today I had to slam my brakes, and I left a long skid mark. I know if you have ABS it shouldn't be one continous line, but this was, about 8ft.

Yep, it was optional. You only get it if you have side impact air bags, as well. I have the package, myself.

Isn't it funny how different the options are between Canada and the US models. Up here in Canada ALL Protege 5s came with ABS as standard equipment but side air bags are not available, not even as an option. Our P5s also do not have the roof rack built in and you have to buy a bolt on type.

Pretty silly if you ask me since I really wanted the side air bags.

I'm not too worried about the side airbags, but I did want ABS. :'(

I'm pretty sure that on models with ABS a small light comes on inside the dash when you start the car. Should be on the bottom left side, thats where it is on my car.

Correct, if an ABS light turns on when you start the car and turns off after a few seconds, you have ABS. If it stays on then you have broken ABS. If it doesn't come on at all you don't have ABS.
