Mazda Claims Fastest Import Four-Door on the Track

MAZDASPEED is laying claim to an unusual title: the Mazda6, by the company's reckoning, is the first import-branded, front-drive car to slam through the quarter-mile in less than eight seconds. At SEMA, Mazda said that Ed Bergenholtz's

PRO-FWD MAZDA6 dragster ticked off a time of 7.934 seconds through the quarter, clocking in at almost 184 miles per hour. The record was set Oct. 23 at Pomona. Mazda says, prior to its feat, only domestic-badged cars with multimillion-dollar factory backing have achieved the feat.

drawing 4 doors in a carbonfiber body isn't 4 doors. then the solara guys could just put on a camry body and run 6's. haha

thats not the stock 2.3L 4cyl uh ?

or did they just turn it or something ?

its a heavily modified 2.3

its been bored out and rebuilt with all the goodies. at sevenstock they were running a conservative 1100 hp, and said it was capable of 1800.

i know it was heavily modified, but doesnt the 4cyl go from left to right instead of straight like the one in the picture ?

they either moved the engine or took another one

The only thing from the 2.3 L3 Mazda 6...is the block itself. Everything else is completely different, including the fact they run the engine in a RWD position...no transverse mounted transmission can take that much power without exploding. Far easier to just flip a RWD differential around.

by flipping the RWD differential around, that makes it FWD ?

cause i think its FWD judging by the size of the slicks in front

they wouldn't be running in "fwd" if it wasn't lol...anyhow that is one bigass fuckin turbo lol...doin same thing with my dp, wg dumptuge, out the side :D

Its basically a RWD setup, but in front of the drivers compartment. So technically its not a "true" transverse FWD system.

You can see the RWD differential right behind the engine. Just think RWD, but really squat, with no true driveshaft, and sitting all in front of the driver. Kinda of cheating if you ask me. If they restricted it to transversely mounted tranny's, you wouldn't see no 7's :).
