Have had this exhaust for a bit now and love it, but am having some major rattling issues. Had a shop take a look, and they say it is rattling up against the gas tank shield. They said the exhaust didnt look like it was made right, and that it needs to be chopped and routed differently. Anyone out there had these issues? Anyone have a picture of the underside of their car with this exhaust on?

Thanks,

Six

Yeah! Mine is not QUITE as close as that, but it is definetely hitting while driving, especially if my take off is not super smooth. BAP BAP BAP BAP, freakin annoying. I just got it up on a jack right now, and I can see that it is defientely rubbing. I took some pics that I will post up later. Did you talk with Jack on this at all?

Jack and I no longer get along, could not stand all his lying and other bullshit. I had it fixed locally.

Can you tell me what was done to fix it? And do you have any post-fix pictures?

Thanks for the help!

I had to get both of my midpipes lengthened. I say both because I have one with a cat and the other without.

Jack gave me a call and gave me some good suggestions. He said that I could add a extra flange to extend the piping a bit...mine isnt as close as yours. The other thing was to try poly hangers so it doesnt move around so much. I might try replacing my rear engine mount as well....the front mount helped me a bit, but there is still some good movement going on.

it sure is disappointing to read this thread ...

for all ion hypes up their product to be in r&d so long and this and that, and then to have it not fit (and it sounds like it wasn't just a small issue) ... really a letdown ...

And the most upsetting thing is that he is starting new thread for new products, not even an Authorized Vendor, trying to screw more forum mebers.

Wow. Sounds like iON's "top notch" products = teh suck. I almost sent in a deposit for the t-back last May... so glad it didn't work out.

Oh yeah, and he says each of the systems is test fitted and that's why it takes so long...

Oh yeah, and he says each of the systems is test fitted and that's why it takes so long...

Bullshit, he means they are all mounted on a jig, and from what I see now, everyone is having the same fitment issues.

Let me tell you what I saw on my exhaust. The way they are assembled.

He has some form of jig or whoever makes it for jack does. They put the stainless on, then MIG spot weld, right MIG not TIG. Then they take it off and TIG weld it on a bench.

So R&D and all this bullshit we have been fed from Jack is all fabrications in his head.

But I have to say that the funniest one I heard in all this " we cannot weld these past few days because it is too humid and the welds will become porous"

Bah Bah Bullshit!!!!

" we cannot weld these past few days because it is too humid and the welds will become porous"gee i wonder where you could make an exhaust system where there is no humidity

can't you die from an explosion with the pipe touching the tank like that?

Actually look at tis picture again:

It's touching the floor pan luckily ** I guess ** and not the gas tank.

Good 'ol Ion! Maybe now Jack will no longer be able to sell stuff on this site considering he is NOT AN AUTHORIZED VENDOR. Heck, I have to admit I am amazed that he has left the GHL threads alone. He rips people off and makes them wait too long for product that they prepaid for. Hell, my $300 CS Exhaust fits better than that!

Hopefully the Mods will finally do something about this since there are more negative posts about Ion than positive ones.

Doesnt look like fixing the rubbing issues will be too much of a issue, though I still have to work on the rattling (which bugs me the most). I just ordered the kartboy hangars, so hopefully that will help with the play a bit. I also havent replaced the rear mount yet, so I might do that in the future as well....still way too much movement in the engine bay.

Thanks to the guys at SPD Racing, my exhaust has been fixed...Better. Stronger. Faster! :)

Ill get some pictures up later, but they had to cut the exhaust in 5 places, put in a flex joint, and reroll the muffler as it had a big crack in it! For those of you with the ION turbobacks, you might want to inspect your exhaust. Our engine moves alot, and the exhaust moves right along with it. Mine was rubbing on the floor well, and a few other places...but the crack was the worse part...it was on the top so it couldnt be seen until it was taken off. Buyer beware! Once I get some pictures Ill be doing a vendor review for IoN.

So now I have a really expensive exhaust, but its now how it should have been. No more rattling and it sounds great.

Mine has been perfect too. But I think I'll be having SPD put the flex joint in just to be safe. I already had one of the hangers come loose because of the kartboy hangers, but have had that fixed by having the hangers triangulated (the way it should have been done).

haven't taken a picture yet. There are some pics of what can be done in a thread I posted: http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=70682&highlight=ion+kart+boy

Any exhaust shop should be able to do it, but basically it involved adding a support rod to the hanger, and welding it to the muffler in a different direction from the existing hanger.

I finally got under the car today and loosened all the joints and moved it around until it clears everything. It was rubbing at the back of the front heat shield.

Did anyone finally get pics up with the changes they made to the exhaust so it stopped rubbing and rattling? I'm thinking of getting the t-back but now I'm iffy.

When i first start the car my exhaust is making alot of noise like right below the shifter or in that area. Did any of yall with the Ion Exhaust have this problem and do you have any idea what it could be because it doesnt do it when the exhaust warms up.

Did you use spacers for the heat shield ?

Which heatshield are you talking about. I just used all the stuff that came with the exhaust. Would something like that cause it to make a sound. It sounds like it is leaking but then when the car gets warm it doesnt do it anymore?

You have to use the two spacers for the heatshield under the tunnel or else it vibrates it and makes a metal type sound.

JMUSpeed

OK i will check that out and see if maybe that is it but i was also wandering if this would cause the noise to happen only when the car is cold because once the car warms up it stops. Sorry for all the questions.
