i know the HKS looks awesome and the apexi is good too but i dont like paying alot of money on mufflers since they are the ass holes of the cars :)
im looking for a nice 3 inch inlet and not too ricey muffler for around 100 bucks.

I was also looking a long time ago for this stuff. I didn't like all the $50 mufflers on ebay. I found that Apex motorsports carries a few mufflers but the one taht caught my eye was the corksport muffler. They sell theirs for like $80 if I remember correctly.

yeah but the OBX muffler looks ok and IIRC obx makes some headers for the mp3s. so they are not ur typical ebay mufflers . btw i doubt that the aapexr1 mufflers are any better then the ebay ones

apex motorsports sell tsudo mufflers. couple people have them and do like them. i still say my 5zigen sounds the best :p

but 217 is pricey
btw where did u get the flanges for the 3 inch catback ? did the muffler shop carry them?
EvilMSP
11-03-2004, 03:43 AM
Ah you are right, I forgot about that size.

pricey, yes. worth it, most definitely. the tsudo ones are pretty good. there's a soundclip of one in the exhaust thread.
my catback isn't flanged. it's been welded to the stock piping. i plan on having a custom 2.5" downpipe/midpipe combo made and flanged up to my catback. that's uhh, whenever i find enough money in my bank account :(

Just get one of the N1 style mufflers for cheap off of e-bay. :)

I love your avatar icon thingy.....
those cheap obx or whatever brand mufflers that are always up on e-bay are not that bad. I used one on my old 01 Civic, and with crush bend 2.5" piping and no resonator it sounded decent for a slow Civic. Nice and deep! With the silencer in it sounded like ASS though.

Tsudo or OBX if you want to go cheap(not always a bad thing)
Otherwise spend $200 and get a nicer muffler from a Japanese company. N1 style mufflers will all be pretty close in sound.

Im lookin' for muffs for cheap as well....just my opinion, but the magnaflow stuff always looks like hell,...i mean, if you're a modder or whatever and can tell what they are, cool. If they perform well, cool. But to most people (and i agree), they just look like crap stock mufflers...just my 2 cents.

Anyone have any input on Ractive mufflers....? or any other good sounding, not expensive ones...?

That one is nice, I've looked at it before, but I'm not getting it.
I'm getting a universal 3"in/3"out muffler without a tip. Then I'm having a small portion of 3" piping welded on for the tip, which I might polish up.
1moreMPH- I think you'd be surprised by the amount of people who care a lot more about how a part performs, rather than how it looks... I'm definately not getting a muffler to turns heads (braindead

m0v3d.
.. Disgustingly belated response, but I decided to drop the $$$ for an HKS Hi-power muffler with the titanium tip. 3" inlet and 4.75" tip. I paid a little over $250 for it, not including shipping.
But I'll tell you what, it was SO worth it. It delivered EXACTLY the kind of sound I was looking for, and I wouldn't give it up for anything.
.. If you want, I can see if I can get a sound clip of it now that I have a digital camera that's capable of taking movies. Let me know.

there is no difference in the body of the muffler. the one you linked earlier just has a 4" tip, and 4" is too big for me. the cost will be about the same. I may get a Borla Sportsman XR-1, but they are a lil more than a Magnaflow.

im actually looking into the 14835 the link is to a 14834 i think the first one looks much better its 130 shipped. what kind of piping are u getting ?

Excuse the dirtiness of my car -- today's the first day I've seen the sun, and not rain, in I don't even know how long. And I tried to get the best pictures of the exhaust setup that I could .. but since you still can't see very well, here's what I have:
I kept the first stock cat because I'm retarded and didn't think to replace that one with a hi-flow cat. The second stock cat, however, I did replace with a 2.5" Magnaflow hi-flow cat. Unfortunately, PA requires that you run at least two cats in your system to pass inspection/emissions .. otherwise I'd be going catless. Anyhoo, from the second cat there's nothing but piping -- I ditched the resonator -- which leads back to my HKS muffler with the 3" inlet.
And, uh. I have a sound clip -- though it's in the format of a movie, mpeg -- and I can't seem to upload it. Help?

Alright...I am in total agreement with the whole performance thing and all....but let's think about this, this guy is looking at 50 dollar mufflers, not really great performance ones either. So, my guess is that he's looking for a good loud sound and a nice back side that gets some second glances. Not reasons for everybody, but if you want performance, look at performance muffs, not 50 dollar universal ebay whatnots.....

what about a borla turbo muffler? there like 85$ and u know itll have a nice deep rumblea sportsmans xr-1 is $125ish, the other mufflers aren't that good for turbo apps. the XR-1's are their highest flowing products IIRC (stash)
wonderful price on the exhaust :) since i'm getting out of the snow/salt that comes with winter up here, I'm probably going to go mild steel.
