does your downpipe rub or make the 'klung' sound? if so, what did you do to rid the problem? (help)

i can answer your questions......i have the 3" apex....and it would bang all day on rough roads and bumps....took it into mazda for an oil change....had the mech look at it....and had him slightly heat up the (torch) welded hangers coming off the pipe, and bend them down so the pipe sits lower....that little difference has terminated this problem.....

if you'll notice, when the car is jacked up....the middle of the 3" pipe...has little clearance near its hanging point....so the methos aformentioned is necessary to stop any banging.....

See the thread http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=64916 started by Rawyzf. He and I go back and forth with several different attempts at eliminating said rattle. The last dozen posts contain the solution to the rattle problem. Its a lot of trial and error, none of it too difficult, to get it just so. In my case it was the resonator hitting the heat shield.

I hope this helps, as I know this is annoying.

Kartboy Hangers do help...even the mazda tech commented on them while replacing the racing beat axel back with the mazdaspeed axelback.

If your still confused about what to do.....

The 2 hangers coming off the 3" DP are like having your hands out (spread wings).....What you want the muffler shop to do, is torch them and bend them so that it's as if you were flexing your biceps (130 deg bend).....and you'll notice, it will give clearance....

Just don't do it to an APEX dp. They say it will void any warranty you have for the part. They give you washers to fix the problem. You can see pics on their website.
