So I noticed yesterday in the glossy reflection of a F250 that my passenger side lowbeam headlight was out. I kinda smirked and decided to run over and get some extra bright replacements. Once I got the drivers side replaced, I started working on the passenger's side when I noticed the inside of the assembly was rattling around all over the place. I am speaking about the dome and holes where the bulbs pop into the closed in assembly. It seems that a little piece is broken or fell off. I ended up shimming it up with some cardboard and took it into the dealership to see about a warrenty replacement. First off, the only thing that can be replaced is the whole assembly and it costs 220 bucks. Secondly, due to some minor fender benders and insurance work, I can't stick it under warranty because they will blame it on the accident. I guess I will try to fix it myself. I remember talking to a few of you guys (Erik) about painting the internals of the headlight assembly black or something. What I need now is some instruction on how to crack that sucker open to I can bond-o or fix the broken piece on the inside. Sorry for the long post.

Well to open up you're headlights you need to take them off you;re car and remove all metal parts and anything that will melt. Then heat you're oven up to 250 I think it is. then stiock the headlight in there for about 10-15 mins. You should be able tpo remove it and pry it apart at this time.

If you are looking into doing this, we could do both our cars at the same time. I have been wanting to redo mine but have been lazy. Let me know what you want to do.

if you had an accident and that headlight was effected than it should be fixed under the warranty that says that if anything goes wrong with repair, they must fix it. even if the headlight was not effected by the accident it could have been effected when they did work on the car and fucked it up. i would check into that if i were you, just a thought.

Good point Yellow!

Ric you should check into this first, you could get a new headlight for free and I could use the lense off of you're old one. Mine are all pitted from rocks. I would like to see if they can be buffed out though.

The only day that I know I am off next is on the 31st. Would you want to come to my house in Shen to do it. I have a big garage to work in so if the weather doesn't hold up we can still get it done.

Let me know if this will work or if you have another time in mind.

I don't have my work schedule for November yet so I don't know my days off. I am off on the 3rd but that day is already booked with Doctors appointments and also going to meet up with a new member.

The problem lies in the accident happened a while back. First accident was passenger side wheel well. The second one was a truck rear ending me into my front bumper. Both could have jolted the thing loose. The guy at Woodhouse said he would try to slip it under warrenty, but he thought they would come back and say it was due to the accident. In that case, I'm screwed because I think its past the date for adjustments. I mean, the new bumper was installed about 2 months ago. What do you guys think?

I would definitely try every avenue if it could save you some money. The worst that can happen is you have to buy a new headlight.

Also, maybe you can talk to you're insurance company about it. They should have the info from the last claim and see if they can do something for you.

most if not all insurance companies and body shops warrant their work for as long as you own your car. that means if there develops a problem which is a result of the accident repair or in workmanship, they must fix it.

if the headlight was affected by the accident they must fix it whether it was done so allready or not. this is your car and money, you got to stand up for your rights.
