View Full Version : Never go to Dave's Lube Thru in Colmar, PA

Sorry but I need to vent. Feel free to let me know if I am being to anal...
Went to Dave's Lube Thru (Colmar, PA) for an oil change. I should have went to Mazda but I was pressed for time. Long story short... I get home, open the hood to check the oil level and see in bright silver paint "4qts" on my valve cover. I'm like WTF? I try removing it with soap and water, no luck. Tried paint thinner, no luck.
I called and asked the manager why they painted "4qts" on my valve cover and he said because they don't want to look up the oil capacity next time its in. I said I want it removed. He said "no!" Then he said if I brought it back he would scribble over it with a black marker. I said that was not acceptable and he proceeded to give me attitude and then hung up on me.
Any suggestions? ...Besides the obvious... I should never go to a Quick Lube!

4 qts is too much.....but on the better things....to paint something on your car without you explicit permission must be illegal....check your local lawscall the cops, whatever just don't give them a excuse and make them replace it....threaten to sue nicely
Dexter

eh, i put 4qts in mine.
I dont think the extra .3 qts will make much of a difference, especially when it cycles through the oil filter and turbo...

uhh they painted on your valve cover, wtf? threaten to sue 1st off, if they still act like dicks, then just throw bricks through the windows.

Get some paint remover. That should take care of it. Also, buy a jack, some stands, and your own oil & filter. I personally would go down there and whip some ass! You must be a bit more rational. No excuse for being that stupid as far as modifying your property without your prior consent.

say your engine is ruined and you need a new one.
mp5jeff
10-20-2004, 03:57 PM
yea say they put too much oil in causing the engine to fail, hahaha, not sure if that would work but it's worth a try.

Thanks for all the support! I never expected to get this type of response.
I was going to post the number but I see someone has beaten me to it.
Also about the 4 quarts being to much...not sure but on the receipt they wrote 4.5 quarts.
I will try to get some pics posted.
Feel free to call and ask the for the manager.
Let me know what they say... this may get very entertaining.

called, told them not to paint shit on peoples VC's
peepsalot
10-20-2004, 04:26 PM
Damn, that is fucked up. They not only paint on your car, but also try to charge you for extra oil, when you now have obvious proof written on the car BY THEM that it takes no more than 4 quarts.

10-20-2004, 04:32 PM
Is it on the actual valve cover or the plastic one?
Dexter
10-20-2004, 04:34 PM
wtf 4.5 quarts is definetly way too much....
yet they marked 4 qts so they would remember...LOL what a bunch of assholes. more people should call them and tell them.
Gbourdon
10-20-2004, 04:35 PM
Anyone else call? I might call. Tell them that we are all members of an enthusiasts club and all this does is further the reason why going to places like this or jiffy lube, or anything like that is bad news.

It is painted on the black plastic valve cover.

They owe you a new cover.

10-20-2004, 04:48 PM
yea they should have to pay for a new one
Gbourdon
10-20-2004, 04:49 PM
Yeah call the dealer and get the price
Foolish
10-20-2004, 04:58 PM
Call a Mazda dealer. Find out what a new cover will cost, installed. Call the lube place and tell them that they need to reimburse you for that amount of money to make up for their act of vandalism. Call your local police non-emergency # and find out what you have to do to press charges. Press charges.
Look into small claims court proceedings to get your money from them. You most likely won't need a lawyer, and you can make them pay the court costs, too, as long as you win.
Or, you can let it go. Depends on how much trouble it's worth to you.
Also, if you don't want them to claim you "harrassed" them or damaged their business, don't encourage people to call and bitch them out.

I say, sue the motherfucker!!!
they don't have a computer to look for customer's database or something??
KYMP5
10-20-2004, 05:10 PM
i would definitely press charges..... for the simple fac that it will piss them off to no end, cost them more than a cover does and let everyone know what fuck ups they are
mp5jeff
10-20-2004, 05:21 PM
call up some local news channels see if anyone will cover it if you really want to fuck with them haha.
blue_msp
10-20-2004, 05:33 PM
$140 for the plastic cover...not including labor.
Perhaps I could try small claims court.

10-20-2004, 05:37 PM
Is there a lawyer on the forum that could call up and throw a bunch of legal jargen(sp?) the manager's way? That would be funny.
I could ask my brother to do it, but I think the cases he deals with are a little higher profile.:p
No offense blue msp.

Fill a gallon milk jug full of piss, put it on their doorstep, and paint "4qt." above it on the door.

10-20-2004, 07:15 PM
I say call back and be nice and assertive and try to get a new cover again...bringing up the fact they used, and charged you for the wrong amount of oil. If they fail to comply then PLEASE post that number...and I guarantee that many bored, cynical MSP owners will call and harass. At least then you will get some satisfaction then!

Call and explain that you show your car, and this vandallism of your engine compartment will cost you dearly at judged car shows! If you don't show your car, tell them you were going to start, but now you can't because they've damaged your car. Make it clear to them that they did not have your permission to do this to your property and you expect the damage to be undone properly, not using a black magic marker!
Offer to paint "(Blue MSP) thinks you are an asshole" on the side of the shop manager's car for him, so that he doesn't have to wonder every day! Won't that be convenient?

There is a dave's lube in colmar? I have never seen it. You should of just went to mazda or at least bergeys chevy right up the street. If you dont do it yourself at least go to a dealer. That's pretty bad that they did that to remember. And yes they owe you a valve cover. Where exactly is this place in colmar, I'll look for it next time I drive by, which is a lot.
So they dont have to look it up next time?!? It takes what? 30 seconds to look that up. :wtf: Post pics if you can.

Man that's fucked up. I liked the idea of painting "DON'T COME BACK HERE" on their sign and door etc. "Just reminding myself that you guys FUCKING BLOW!" Man, I hate people so much. I would not stop until they pay for a new VC.

WTF would they need to spray paint it on just to remember it? Its not like its that hard to find out how much oil the engine takes, I mean its in the fu-cking manual!!!!
Dont use any type of paint remover on the plastic, you will end up melting it as most paint remover is very harsh on plastic.

Yeah its about a quarter mile north of Bergey's Chevy. Big yellow sign out front.
I've always changed my own oil on every car I've owned. But I just bought a house and was pressed for time so I stopped in for a quick change...never again!

Great advice. Thanks! I will try it.
If not, I will try small claims court and the Better Business Bureau.
