Last summer I went to my local exhaust shop. I told my trusted friend that works there- "I want to replace the single largest bottleneck in my exhaust system." He, of course, recommended I replace the muffler. I did and was very displeased with the hp I gained from only the muffler being replaced, maybe 5 whp. I mentioned to him that there was a downpipe that would replace quite a bit of the exhaust and both cats and he said it was a waste of time. However, I just installed my 3" catless dp and I could swear I get as much hp out of the dp as I did the muffler!?!?!!! Oh well, AWESOME mod!!

Yeah, the stock muffler actually isn't that restrictive. A lot of people replace everything BUT the stock muffler.

Gains from a muffler alone = maybe 2WHP

Biggest gains will be made from a catless midpipe.

Gains from a catless midpipe = 10-15WHP

The muffler wont get you shit on an otehrwise stock exhaust. The downpipe was a good move, and will diffently net you more gains then a muffler will. Lol no offense but your friend is stupid. Where did you get your 3 in downpipe from?

now get rid of the resonator section.
your 3" downpipe is only producing like half of what it can since the resonator section is 2".
i felt a nice increase after i got rid of mine.

Wow! I didn't think that section was so small! Have you actually measured it?

Yea i got it on and it OWNS. I dont think anyone in this thread realized the story was a joke -=P The muffler was a "rice" mod of mine, haha so shoot me....

I def wanna do sum aftermarket piping from dp to muffler when i can. Maybe ill see how much sum plain ol piping would cost fabbed.

Thats the same concept I use. Header-back with no restrictions but into the 03.5 MSP muffler..Smaller piping or not, it keeps it quiet..thats about it.
