i got a cal from Import Trenz, who i started a body kit with last month, sayin that VIS was looking for a 6 to test fit some new hoods for the car. So they called me and i went down yesterday to test fit the hoods...The quality is amazing! I ended up takin the EVO style, but was torn on the Invader one. this is the 3rd CF hood i've had on the car, and it blows the other 2 away. I should have some pics on my cardomain site by tomorrow for views.
I will be trying to arrange a GB for the hoods once i get the pics from VIS to post. Prices should be around 350 for OEM, 375 for Invader and 400 for EVO. But i have to confirm everything.
I'm posting this on most of the boards, so you might read it twice.

I'd have to agree with FC3s Boy. VIS is run by complete morons. I will never do business with them.

well they cant be too stupid as they made a vented hood for the 6 something people have been askin for, for well over a year now. finally we can help cut down on some heat soak I hope our engine bays hold so much heat.

EVERY company is about money if they want to stay in business. I understand you've had issues with them, there are companies i won't deal with for the same reason. BUT, i am saying i have seen 5 different CF hoods on my car in the last 6 months, and the 3 that VIS supplied (just opened some boxes and put em on) ARE the best yet.
On you're note about them being run by idiots. I can't say yay or nay, but i do have a funny story. It seems the hoods have been ready for some time, but when they finished the initial sets, someone coded the boxes wrong and they were labeled for the protege. so a couple of these hoods actually went out and people were like WTF? when they came back in they realized the error and i went in to get them going. Again, could be a simple mistake with thousands in inventory, or it was idiots.
I gave Custom Carbons a try, and it's a waste of my $315, i will not do business with them again. but i haven't gone around telling everyone they suck, it might have been my hood, my experience. so now i just have an extra CF hood that will be sitting in my living room, maybe a cool table someday or something?

Something looks wierd about that vented hood. Looks so...flat...like a rectangle of cardboard, ya know? The OEM style i like the most, and i bet the invader is pretty decent too. but then again im sure pics dont do it justice

I agree, for a lot any hood other than OEM will be rice on the 6. As far as the tray, it's there so water does not drop straight onto our engine when raining and whatnot. i haven't had the tray on, as i want the heat to be able to be vented a bit. I only see rain a few times a year, so i'm not worried about it.

finally we can help cut down on some heat soak I hope our engine bays hold so much heat.
Hold so much heat compared to what? Every vehicle out there has an engine that produces heat which creates a hot engine bay.
Regardless, they made that hood to make money (not that there is anything wrong with that, they are a business), not help Mazda 6 guys out. Nor does that change the fact they are a poor quality company (product and service). It actually came to the point with me that I had to send a complaint to the BBB. I have NEVER done that or felt the need to ever do something like that in the past. They lied to me numerous times about my order. I called them on their lie and I was yelled at. I told him to stop yelling at me, I was the customer... the SOB hung up on me.
If you guys want quality product for your cars I'd suggest talking to Fiber Images. Their product far exceeds that of VIS anyway. They are already making products for the Protege, you could probably organize a group buy and have anything you wanted made.

how is it rice if it helps let heat out? doesnt that help lol well anyways thats my .02

i think on stock body and what not, the hood is almost too extreme for the car. i have a base body, so it's even more dramatic. I should have 2 kit's done by years end, and i think the overall effect will be nice. the real evo engine bay actually takes advantage of where the vent is, for us it's just open up the hood to cool down the bay a bit. one thing that was cool about the invader hood was from the front view you almost couldn't tell it was different. I think it will be cool to see the evo hood on an car with the engine cover painted, it gives a perfect view of the lettering!
anyhow, hopefully i get the info by tuesday to get things going. Again initial prices are 350 OEM, 375 Invader and 400 Evo plus shipping. if anyone is cool on these prices and wants to get in on it now, email me at MrTea@socal.rr.com with the subject "VIS hood". as soon as i have more info i can reply to those addresses, you could also include the name on whichever forum you saw it on as well.
were the winsheild washer nozles hart to re alighn after install or were they right on the money(No drilling needed)

the question is not what purpose a vented tray serves but what purpose the vents on the hood serve if they're close off underneath
style over function yo

might be lookin into the tray a bit too much guys i think. The tray is a solid piece of fiberglass, painted on one side. It is put there only for those who worry about water falling directly onto the engine, or only want the hood for looks i guess. I do NOT have it installed, as i want to vent some of the heat. i guess you could cut slits in the tray to allow SOME air through, but the water issue would be unavoidable then.
the washer nozzles needed only a good push to set it. which was nice after 30 min of filing/dremeling on my custom carbons one. it seems to shoot the water a bit higher though i noticed. other thing i noticed is the latch seems a bit short or something. it's much better than the other CF hood, but still could stand to be 1/4 longer, which they know.
