From what I recall, the weigh ~22 lbs. a piece.

That's ~22 lbs for just the wheel, correct? Are the GY's a heavier tire than a set of Falken Ziex's (or other mid- to high-performance A/S's)?

i'd say that's normal for an oem 17 (only my opinion... what do i know(shrug)). but you guys have got a little bit more power than us protege's do (excluding msp's). i think the general consensus is that it should be a pound per inch... i.e. 17 lbs for a 17 inch rim. the stock p5 16's weigh in at a little over 16lbs (according to my bathroom scale).

Then I shouldn't get mazda 3 stock rims for my proetge5. It is slow enough. lol

Exactly...

Besides its better to get a 7" wide rim. Nobody in their right mind would look for a 17x6.5" rim.

Almost any aftermarket wheel will be lighter, cost less, and look better than OE.
OTOH, the 3 Alloy is one of the more attractive OE wheels. The RX8 wheel looks better.
