if given the chance and considering both cars were out at the same time would you guys rather buy the mazda 3 5 door or the pro 5. (shrug)
P5. I still prefer P5's look over the mazda 3's.

besides, the hp, the 3 has nothing on the 5.

I think im a little bias but I would choose the P5. I really do like the 5 door 3 though!

and it only has 30 more hp. I think I like the dash setup on the three a little better. Other then that I am happy to see people agree with me...I prefer the mp5 also.

I have a friend that has a 3-5.....so I have gotten a good close look at it....personally....I like the body style of the P5 better.

I've driven the 3 many times and i don't feel nearly as comfortable in it as the p5. the steering wheel angle is odd and i am much more cramped in it. the dead pedal position sucks. just like in some ford cars my knee hits the steering column when i'm in a decent driving position which then means i have to push the seat back further than i like even though the tilt wheel is up as high as it goes. As far as power goes it is a bit quicker than our cars(w/ 5 speed of course). my freind has an auto 3 and my lightly modded p5 would beat it no prob. Overall nothing a few mods can't fix in the power category. overall still a good car but takes a bit to get used to....more than the p5. p5 is better looking too.

P5s have more character. It's got much nicer lines, a sexier grill, and sportier handling. The only thing P5 doesn't have is power, but the tradeoff is a no-brainer to me, I'd buy a P5 over and over again. Hell I'd buy another one if I could find a decent used one :D

Bear in mind the 3 is in its first model year and may be prone to problems. Cars in the 1st model year are monitored closely by the manufacturer for issues and then fixed the 2nd or 3rd model year.

Cant say that about my 2002 (first year) P5.
i may be baised as well, but in comparing the p5 to the 3, i'd probably go with the p5 for exterior styling. the 3 has the bigger engine which i was hoping to find when i bought my car, but eh. interior design-wise, i like the look of the 3...also the 3 has little things that just seem to be more convenient (like the cup holders in the door). stupid little things like that.
if i were to get a 3, i think the sedan looks better than the 5 door, where as the p5 for the protege's. but that's just my opinion

P5 is way sexier.
People never say 3 looks fast, but people always say my 5 is a crazy fast car.

As I said when this was a poll last week, I'd have a 3 5door if I had the money when I bought my P5. To me the 3 is a much better car, but I do love my P5.

I'm not picking on you KGO
Seriously....they're just cupholders. i cant figure out or understand americas fasination and dependance on cupholders and the decision of liking a car or not on their location and such. you shouldnt be driving and drinking(dont even get me started on cell phones) anyway....you should be focused on driving. who cares how many or where they are located. America has turned into a convience and fat ass nation. i'm getting sick of all the mundane crap we call cars with power this and power that. There are too many electronics in cars nowadays. the way we're going we won't be driving...the computer will do it for us. AAAAAHHHHH. Sorry had to vent a wee bit.

id take the pro5, not only because it looks more sporty and the fact that i own one, but i heared the mazda3 have alot of problems, the only think that pisses me off, is the fact that the mazda 3 has 160hp!

The 3 is just too damn expensive with the "real" motor in it. Why doesn't anyone compare the ass ugly base model and the 2.0 to the P5? It's pretty slow too.

I was talking to a mechanic at Mazda and he told me the 3 is having a lot of problems (which is expected in it's first year or so). He also said that the Protege5 has had the fewest problems of any vehicle he's seen come through the dealership (this is a Mazda / Jeep / Toyota dealership). The Protege model has been out for many years and was completely refined in it's last couple years (in my mind) so anyone with a protege5 owns an excellent vehicle. Not to mention everything else that has been said here regarding looks and handling.

just for clarification....it's not that i'm a lazy person or think that it's good to multitask in the car. all i meant was that there were some cool little things on the 3 that the p5 doesn't have. i'm glad you got to vent. CONVENIENCE was my point.

I only use my cup holders on road trips. If the P5 didn't come with one, I'd still have bought it. I just wish they gave you an option on the ashtray/lighter. I would love a storage drawer there.
Remember, Mazda's slogan is "Zoom Zoom" not "Gulp Gulp." (dunno)

Cant say that about my 2002 (first year) P5.Same here. Never a prob with this car and I have over 76K miles. Heck, I was bad and never changed the plugs till about 75k miles.

Cup holders in civics are non existant. Hey, if I'm driving a slow, pretty car, it better have a keg holder.
