Couldn't get one seat belt assembly to unlock after my strut and spring install. Took the whole assembly out so I could try it every now and then. I've tried holding it level and tugging gently, I've tried bolting it into its stock location and gently pulling. Nothing seems to work for me. Anyone in the NY area that could help me out? Or does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

What happens when you get in a wreck and one of them flys through the windshield into a telephone pole?

it sounds to me as though when you removed it to do the install that the belt retracted as far as it could into the houseing and since it must have been laying in a way that the locks fell into place....take the cover off and see if its possible to use a screw driver or anthing to turn the belt spool tighter... I believe they are just engaged and in a slight bind not allowing them to drop out again.

um, sorry, but I don't understand wut your telling me to do. What cover do you want me to take off? Like pop off the plastic white parts? I can pull the belt about 1cm before I feel the lock engage, but I can never pull it more, and not have the lock stop me.

OK i just got it, by swinging around the assembly as if it were a mace, i was hitting my bed and floor wit it, and threw it. Then when I went to pick it up again and proceed swinging it around some more, it just came out.

you have to hold the assembly at the right angle for the belt to come out. just pull slowly.

Yea...that would have been what I said to do.

When things seem bleekest....there is nothing like a little percussive maintenance to do the trick..

If only you'd posted sooner, and told me to do that. Would've saved me so many hours, plus the frustration of reading ppl's posts over and over about gently, with finese, be patient etc.

The angle of the dangle has to be correct. Theres a thingy that is swingy. Gravity makes it happen. (piss)

to get the strut out one of the bolts are being blocked by the seatbelt assembly in the sedan. not sure about the wagon as i don't have one.

edit: just noticed this was in the P5 forum so I guess it is the same case as the sedan.

Because the top of the rear struts, are covered by this metal dome thats part of the seatbelf assembly. You have to remove it in order to get the strut off. When you do so, the seatbelt assembly retracts, and in a PITA to get it back out long enough to reconnect.

it has a tilt lock action. u gotta tilt the belt as if it were still bolted, it will release that way but pull the device slowly. it locks again w/ sudden movent. it's like that in event of an accident, it'll lock and keep u in place. (this is 4 the sedan. i'm not sure about the 5, i haven't worked on my car yet). and in order 2 change out the strut/shocks, the bolt 4 the seatbelt is in the way. u need 2 take it off 4 proper install.
