Well, just took my new 2.5RS out for some minor "spirited driving". As the odo only has 400 miles on it I did not want to really give it to it (I never got it past 4k on the tach).
First imperssions; GOD DAMN! This little car has a TON of low end torque! Very, very torquey, I have owned some V8s and some big American Iron but never have I ever felt this much low end tq. from a four banger.
ALL WHEEL DRIVE IS THE DEAL! I took a very familiar country road tight turn at a decent rate of speed, felt the car slide a bit and just punched it and the all wheel drive just pulled me through the turn in a perfect all wheel drive power slide, so damn sweet and a grin on my face from cheek to cheek.
Guys.........I can only imagine what driving a WRX...or hell an STi is like! DAMN!

yeah
even on my shitty beater with quattro it makes a big difference. the drivetrain is super solid... plus it doesn't jerk in first gear when I let off the gas :)

This car would eat my 2003 Eclipse for breakfast and my (now traded in) Protege5 for lunch.
a good set of coilovers and tires will alleviate any squiggle you may experience with the car. also try to shed some weight, and go autocrossing in that sumbitch.

is that engine the same as the older 2.5rs?
yup. EJ25. non-boosted usdm sti variant. i've seen them make ginormous power on boost.

I know it is a Boxster style engine, dunno if it is the same engine in basic form that is in the STi.
So, how long is a usual break in period for a new car?
What cars can this little sedan take? (shrug)

The newer GDB style 4dr RS has a SOHC H4 with 160hp while the older GC8 2 dr RS is DOHC.As far as the RS and the Sti,they both share the EJ25 engine, the differences are that the RS is SOHC and the STi is (obviously with it's massive amount of hp) a DOHC.

Those are interesting numbers you posted...... (uhm) ....trying to figure out where you got them from.
From the Subaru website:
Type 2.5-Liter SOHC aluminum-alloy 16-valve 4-cylinder horizontally opposed Subaru Boxer engine.
Horsepower 165 hp @ 5600 rpm
Torque (lb.-ft.) 166 lb.-ft. @ 4000 rpm
