First off I have a MSP with Turbo xs dual stage boost controller(10psi) Injen CAI and hardpipes with Gredddy Type S BOV. I want to get a downpipe and keep it with th stock exhaust. Which one do you recomend for the most power. I do not want an exhaust sytem as I want the car to not be loud. Also dos this really increase the sound of the exhaust system? If someone has sound clips with just the DP and stock exhaust that would be great. Thanx for the help.
Ryan

protosport is no more. There is a company called Circuit Sports that is selling the same product. You can get the Downpipe through me, and right now they are on member special for $255.

good price on that...but please note that it is not a true downpipe, currently the only people making true DPs(straight off the turbo) are perrin, ion, and **********. The s-pipe is indeed the most restrictive part, and you would benefit the most from replacing it...

Replacing that S pipe yields what? 2 hp? I'd like to see some numbers on that claim that it's the most restrictive part. Although I can see how it would be restrictive the numbers I've heard don't exactly make me think it's worthwhile. Have you seen some better info on that part than I have? I haven't had much luck turning up better info.

Go with the circuit sports, cuz they both have the same design and material, only CS's is 50 dollars cheaper.
and gains u cant expect from 12-15whp on stock boost, at 10 psi im guessing a lil over 20whp.

well unfortunately there isnt much info on replacing just the s-pipe b/c until now there hasnt been a replacement for just it...ions setup replaces the whole exhaust....my statements were based off of two things...the Ion sport exhaust was tested to net a 22whp gain(replaces s-pipe back), the CorkSport system netted 13whp and left the s-pipe stock, you can derive, though not exactly scientific, that the difference had to be from the restriction of the s-pipe. On a more scientific level I have the airflow rate around here based on the ID of the s-pipe and its fairly restrictive. If i remember correctly the ID was under 2"...its like a water hose valve the bigger the outlet the more volume that can flow through it. im willing to bet, especially at higher boost levels, that replacing the s-pipe will net fairly sizable gains in addition to the rest of the exhaust...but like you said I dont have solid proof this is just based on "off the cuff" calculations and experience with other turbo cars...

You are comparing across dyno's and one exhaust is 3 inches while the other is 2.4 so that's really arbitrary. I'd just like to see someone dyno w and w/o replacing that S pipe. I'm pretty sure even ion found it was something like 2-3hp. I agree with you 100% that S pipe looks restrictive but you can only put a slightly larger diameter piece in place.

If someone would make a friggin s pipe instead of talking about it i'd do a before and after dyno, but until then...

i know hiboost is, but i just can't seem to find anyone with a good amount of knowledge on it.

maybe someone wants to chime in? (evil)

Does circuit sport make a catted J pipe?

Ion's system had the S pipe AND the J pipe basically everything from the turbo to the muffler all 3 inch with a hiflo cat no resonator. gain 22whp
Corksport doesnt replace the s pipe nor the J pipe, and its only 2.4 inches with catless with a resonator. gain 13 whp
Apex and Circuit sports so called Downpipes replace the J pipe and the Midpipe. so from the S pipe to the cat back. gain 12-15whp
you cant really compare the dyno numbers since every theyre all diffrent setups. but you can conlude that everything is really restrictive other then the catback we have.

i dont think hiboost is making the s pipe. they made the J pipe which was something like 2.4 inches. and i think the stock is 1.75

no but u can get a cat welded. 2.5 inch magnaflow cats go for about 60 shipped on ebay. itll cost u 80-100 for the cat and welding at a muffler shop.
