I just purchased a 1996 Protege DX yesterday. I would like to install CAI but can't find anyone that makes one for my model. I searched the forums and had no luck. Is there a company that makes one for my protege? Can I modify one to fit? Can I custom make one? Any help would be appreciated.

Only company I know of that makes one is Essential Speed ...
BUT I'm not sure if you want o buy from them.

From a lot of posts I read from this board n others they're backed up pretty bad as far as peoples orders go.

I ordered the CAI from them in August 6 and have nothing from them yet. Sent email but they haven't replied.

Looks to be no CAI on the market for my year and model. I have read some on custom CAI and have decided to take a stab at making my own. I will post pics when I'm finished.

I got mine from essentialspeed, but it took like 2 months.

97Pro how's the CAI working for you? Notice any big improvements/decreases in high end/low end. I hope to get mine any day now.

From what I noticed, I didnt loose any low end, but I did notice that the car was more eager to get to higher rpms. I also felt like I could rev harder without making the engine struggle.

Result: same low end, higher top end.
But not worth $200.

I wish I would have seen posts like this 2 months ago. Well the money was already sent and I'm just waiting now.

I was JUST about to say that I even have a link...
http://cosmoracing.com/productlist.asp?cid=193
The cons.. When I first got it I had to thoroughly clean the inside of my piupes because there was alot of metal shavings in it. and the filter is cheapo, but you can put a K&N if you want, I don't even need a bypass valve, And I drove it in the rain many times..
Mind you I have the CAI not the SRI
