Hi guys just registered to the forums, i have been looking for a protege for some time now. And i just found 2 pretty good 3rd gen today i was wondering wich one is the best choice bang for buck.
the first one is a 2000 LX man (1.8l) 73 000km
at 9,000$ CAN (6,982$ US)
the other is a 2001 ES man (2.0l) 59 000km
at 11,000$ can (8,535% US)
I am leaining towards the ES but for 2000$ im not sure its worth it. what do you think?

IMO, grab the '01 ES. You get the 2.0 litre engine, front syling updates (makes swapping bumpers with a p5 or MSP easy), 5 lug wheels, rear disc brakes, 16" rims and a nicer interior/dash.You will be happier with the newer one. Plus, I'm sure if you hagle a little, you could close the gap in pricing between the two. Hope this helps and welcome to the forum!

Thx guys i gotta admit the ES looks alot better exterior/interior, but is there a big difference between the FS-DE 2.0 and the FP-DE 1.8 i heard the FP is smoother and there is only a 8hp diff.

ive driven both the 2.0 and the 1.8 and honestly i like the feel of the 1.8 better.
in stock to mildly modified, when you hit the gas on the 1.8 up high and let it rip, its up to the task. however the 2.0 feels a little sluggish up there.
2.0 does have more torque down low but thats about it.
anyway, they are both the SAME engine. same block, and head. the only diffference is stroke. either car is a good choice, go with whichever one you can afford, they are the same car except for milage, year, etc.

I have the 2000 LX and I love it. I do admit though, that if I had a choice, 4 wheel discs sound good to me.
Aside from that, they're almost the same car. Check with your insurance company to see if one makes a large difference over the other.

Buy the 2000, and I will trade you my car plus $1000 cash for your car :) hahaha
If you don't mind the styling difference, 2000 LX would be better..
Cheaper price, cheaper insurance, better mileage (not much, but still)..a lot of savings in long term.
But, if you can afford 2001, then I say get the 2001..after all it's newer car..and it looks better than 2000..

Get the ES..the 2.0L is a stronger motor, and you want those rear disc brakes.

here is an idea, get what you feel you want, u like the old style 3rd gen then go 2000 , if ya like the new style have at it. performance wise they are about the same only a few horses different and power is low end on a new one.. personally i like the 2000 front end, but thats just me.
