View Full Version : *******threads Will Be Locked If Not Put In Proper Subfolders*******

We're taking it upon ourselves to try this out. Since some of us are having issues using the subfolders, now we're going to help. If you create a thread and it is not placed in the proper subfolder, it will be locked. If you create another thread for the same thing in the wrong spot, it will be deleted. The moderators in this section are here to help with members and posts, not spent all of their time moving threads that should be put in the proper places in the first place.

I'll break it down for everyone so we don't have any reasons not to play nicely.

<hr>
MSP Marketplace:
FOR AUTHORIZED VENDORS AND MERCHANT MEMBERS ONLY. ANY NON AV/AMM THREADS WILL BE DELETED. The AVs/AMMs pay monthly fees to the forum so they can advertise and put threads in designated places for viewing. Please respect this or pay the fees yourself so you can post there.

MSP Appearance:
"Interior and exterior cosmetic modification discussions." Doesn't really need further explanation.

MSP Forced Indution:
"Turbo upgrades, intercoolers, valves, pipes, and other force fed related goodies." Boost controllers, wastegates, hardpipes, stockpipes, BPVs, BOVs, etc.

MSP Engine & Performance
"Intakes, exhaust, general performance and engine discussions." This means exhaust, cams, clutches, flywheels, gears, intakes, FCDs, FPRs, fuel pumps, spark plugs, belts.. Anything that's not a specialized turbo part.

MSP Car Audio & Electronics
Sound systems, gauges, lighting, and other electrical discussions." Alarms, HVAC light changes, overlays, foglight relays, strobes. You get the point.

MSP Rims, Tires & Suspension
"Brakes, springs, tires, wheels, and other items that help keep your MSP on the road." Really should not need further explanation.

MSP Archives
Don't worry about this one yet.
<hr>

Jersey and I are working on setting up a "MSP General Chat" for all of the bullshitting we must do. However, in the mean time please use the general section below for that. USE THE SUBFOLDERS FOR EVERYTHING ELSE.

<hr>
What if my thread is about a turbo back exhaust? Where does it go?
MSP Engine & Performance. If the majority of the part is in one category or is used primarily for one thing.. Go for that one

What about an APEX`i AVC-R? It's electronic but a boost controller..:
Again, use your head. If your question is pertaining to why someone would want the gear dependant boost, use the Forced Induction section. If you need to know what wires to tap in to for the ECU, use the Electronics. It's not that hard. If you have any issues, let a moderator know.

Why are you being a forum nazi?@!:
Because we have more posts in this section than ANY other. It's INCREDIBLY hard to find things using search. We're making it easier. We just need your help. Organization sucks while you're having to do it but it's a lot better when you're finished with the first steps.

I don't like having to go in EVERY section just to see if something has changed. WTF?:
You don't have to. To the left of every section is a square with a check mark looking V in it. If that square is BLUE, nothing has changed since your last visit. If it is WHITE, there have been new posts/threads/etc.

Thanks for your cooperation with us. If you have any questions, post them here or PM a moderator if you don't want to say it publically.

Word.

The last I had heard about the sub-folders was that we should just post in the main area and that the posts would then be moved. Didn't make sense then, but sometimes I just don't understand things.

Just an observation.

That was when the subforums weren't active, and you COULDN'T post in them.

It's a good idea to put some order into this Forum as it is soo large. It is not alwways easy to find or retreive a thread of interest. It would help to retreive a thread if you could number them starting at one with the oldest one. This way a threasd would not always change numbering and it would be easier to find it back.

Threads are already numbered by the forum software. Like for instance, this thread is #80687. The number can be found in the URL -- http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=80687 is the address for this page.

Not trying to be a smart ass or anything, but the other day I was going to ask a question about steering. Where would that go? I'm guessing MSP Rims, Tires & Suspension ... (shrug)

I find the search a PITA to use as it doesn't allow strings shorter than 3 characters. Is is possible to modify this feature?

How many relevant search words are less than 3 characters?

I agree. I find myself hitting the 2 character limit all the time...

I'll bring it up with the admins, see what they say. I'm curious, can you give me some examples? I've never had to search for a word that was less than 3 characters to find any info I needed.

If you guys are using search as is, you realize how much of a pain it is to wade through page after page of results. If things here were in a subfolder, you could simply either selection that folder or look for a result in the search that matches a relevant folder.

Even if you look in a certain subfolder, there are STILL tons of threads to look in. I can't think of anything off hand, but setting a 2 character limit would definately help.
Oh, and why bother locking a thread that is in the wrong section so no one can give a response to what someone originaly posted? You might as well just delete the thread in the first place, rather than clog this forum up with locked threads...

Here's some examples, but there's a lot more... I know we can use this form : (ex.) "J pipe" but often we don't think about it...

IC
TB
DP
NA
FI (fuel injection)
BO (back order)
Kg
Km
3" (and all other 2 digit numbers, like octane n., miles, psi and so on)
T 25 (instead of T25, T-25...)
type s (some use this instead of type-s)
hi boost
spool up
J pipe
S pipe
FS DE (instead of FS-DE)

Word. Locking it just makes for even MORE garbage lying around. Either move it where it "belongs" or delete it.

check it out:

IC = IC* or *IC
DP = DP* or *DP

It's a good trick but, unfortunatly it will pick up all words that contain these 2 character in that sequence within the string. So any string, regardless of lenght, with these characters will show up causing a lot of noise and therefore not helping the search very much. :)

Do you see how hard you guys are having to work to force the subfolders on the members? I'm sure you will eventualy break their wills and leave them no choice but to declare their subfolder. I think the subfolders work great for searching, but for the casual reader or someone with a question it makes it harder. If I have a question that is in a subfolder I'm only going to get responses from members that visit that section. Do the guys with all the answers visit every section every day? If so that's pretty tedious for them. Same old argument. If I have to use the subfolders I will..... but I don't want to.

t3ase

Again, it's easy to tell if a subfolder has new items since your last visit.

There's a square box with a a check mark in it to the left of the subfolder name. If this box is blue, nothing in that section has changed since your last visit. If it is white, there have been changes so you should check it out.

Also I have a plan that will address this concern completely. I'm not going to get into details yet until I know 100% that my ideas can be implemented.
