I am considering moving up to 17" wheels when my stock 16"s wear out. A thought just popped into my head what do i do with the spare? My thinking is the the spare will be useless with a bigger wheel. On the plus side, no spare opens up the well for my amps.
Any thoughts?(scratch)

well, in our cars the spare isn't really a "spare" its an emergency tire, and will work as it is designed (in a pinch) not to beused to a great number of miles... so I wouldn't ditch it for a different one. also, your 17" wheels and tires will be close to the same diameter as your 16"s unless you really want to have your speedometer off.
It wont make a difference even with bigger wheels (referring to 17s, NOT 18s) Since you are getting 17s there will be less rubber, and it will pretty much the same diameter size as on your 16s. I say keep the spare.

well , yeah keep the spare, but in my case, i kept it, and now i cant get to it without dismantling my setup.. it is under a sheet of 3/8 inch wood, with an amp on top, amp rack on back, and 2 subs on each side, so i am screwed if i get a flat..

and yea, it's not a spare tire, it's a spare wheel-and-tire combo that you bolt right to the hub
