Wow, my car feels terrible now. I couldn't tell a huge difference when I put it in, but I could when I took it out. If I hadn't already made a deal to sell it I would be keeping it until I can get either the Haltech or MPI tuner. For anyone who is considering unichip it makes a noticeable difference.

Did you reset your PCM when you took it out?

I had the battery unhooked the whole time while taking it out, that should have reset it correct???

This is what I've been wanting to know. If someone has used a different boost controller than the one provided.

Alan its very easy what i did was leave the boost controller from the unichip in the box and installed the chip without it. then once i got my boost gauge and profec i just installed it just like i didn't have a chip because the 2 hav nothing to do with it. so know i can run whatever boost i want daily and i can turn it back down for track days if i want to feel safe.

Awesome bill, I was wanting to know that as well. Do you have any idea what a/f ratio's you're hitting with the unichip?

And damn bill, #10? Old schOOl.

i don't know but i was running the car at stock boost and it ran fine and the maps were set for 12psi so you shouldn't go lean below that . Number 10? i guess you are talking subaru?

I love My Unichip
this company made good work for my MSP

This last friday kill my brother stock WRX very bad 4 to 5 cars from rol start
Thanks to unichip and the better my Blitz SBC-id is setting at 7psi my car run how a beast all time im use the map B with Texaco 93 premium fuel

at 10 psi you need big "cojones" balls to run the car pull like a locomotive

im whait for the FMIC and CAI to go to the Dyno

THANKS UNICHIP>>>>

Hmm, FMIC or Unichip :)

I also was wondering if anyone had hooked up a boost controller other than the unichip supplied unit. I wonder how much of a price cut CS could give you if you order one w/o the BC?

Just look up a little bit they are already talking about new boost controllers with the unit.

This thread makes mewant to look into the chip further heh.

So if you dont install the Unichip providied BC, you would run stock boost?

low_psi
09-07-2004, 01:04 PM
Yes, or you could install another brand BC and run stock/10psi like the Unichip is programmed to do.

EvilMSP
09-07-2004, 03:45 PM
Yeah it just won't be as effecient is all.

low_psi
09-07-2004, 03:48 PM
what makes you think that? a good BC will actually hold the boost you set it at, instead of the UC's that spikes all over the place.

EvilMSP
09-07-2004, 03:55 PM
No I wasnt talking about the quality of the MBC. I was talking about the altered fuel and timing maps that come on the chip. That is what I meant by less effecient.

It spikes and such because it's tuned for the fuel curve made by their weird tunning.

I'm not sure if I still like this thing or not but I still haven't heard of anyone having it re-tuned for mods which makes me wonder how "tuned" it is for anyone who has it.

09-07-2004, 04:29 PM
Lets put it this way. I've had unichip on my car, actually its in the box in my backseat right now. The car drives like it should with unichip. I no longer have it on the car and am running stock boost and the car isn't nearly as smooth as it was before. I'm back into the hesitation and jerkiness of the MSP fuel maps. Its time for a new turbo, internals and haltech E6X.

I know its supposed to bleed off, but some people are getting 15psi spikes and then 9-8psi holds on the high boost setting, its seems very sparatic. I still like the 13-10psi bleed idea though :)

mazdaowner123
09-07-2004, 05:48 PM
I don't think it was supposed to spike to 13 and bleed to 10. Whoever said that later said they talked to the unichip guy and he said it's supposed to hold at 10. The spike wasn't intentional. That was my understanding anyway....

SO if you didnt install the UC BC nor another BC and left it at stock boost would it run less effecently

I have a MBC from JoeP, CAI, 3" DP and some other stuff, and car has been running kinda jerky and off since the summer started. Either my car doesnt like my mods or it just hates the summer. I still get hesitation.. hence why I'm buying the Unichip from gsomsp. :D I was VERY impressed with the way his car handled with it on... BIG difference, maps seem to be more accurate than from the ones Mazda provides from factory as well.

One day I'm gonna have to get a turbo kit upgrade too.. mmmm..... lol

People have said that even at stock boost the UC is a great improvement over the mazda maps.

So, what is it exactly that the Unichip does? And, what does it correct...what will you be noticing once installing it when you get out and drive? And how come everyone wants a new turbo once they install the Unichip?

So, what is it exactly that the Unichip does? And, what does it correct...what will you be noticing once installing it when you get out and drive? And how come everyone wants a new turbo once they install the Unichip?maybe a search is in order? it adjusts the fuel and timing maps just like anyother piggyback computer. most people wanting a new turbo want to tune the car themselves, but the Unichip isn't end-user programmable w/o a dealer.

Simple ans - Unichip has timing/fuel maps, one or two more agressive than others. It fixes or corrects many of the usual glitches, hesitation and fuel management problems that have been associated directly with the Mazdaspeed engine. Map A runs your daily driving and boosts up to 10-13 psi. Map B is more agreesive, usually used for higher octanes, higher boost and all around race type conditions. The system comes with switches, boost contoller and other components. It can be dash mounted and it's pretty much plug and play. Most people can see a clear difference in the engine response and overall better gas mileage.

I've got it, but havent installed it because I have heard mixed things. The copper plugs I have make for better conduits than the stock ones. And when I get the Unichip.. hopefully it will solve all my problems. You may never hear me bitch again......maybe just a little..... but thats to be expected. :D lol

You should give it a try, I mean the FRP kit. To make sure I'm safe I use 94 octane gas. For the iridiums, they have a stronger (and longer, depending on gap) spark and that improves combustion therefore helping a bit the hesitation issue. I have both and the car is so smooth. BTW I boost around 8 psi. The FPR kit also gives you a better milage... Since you already have it, why not try it while you're waiting for the chip?
