Good Morning All! I was hoping someone here could help me. My check engine light has gone on , and the diagnostic has shown that it is the oxygen sensor.

Well- for the Mazda Protege 1.6L 2000.....there are a few Bosch sensors you can buy, but the prices are DRASTICALLY different. One is like $400 which I absolutely cannot afford right now. The other one is around $70, which I could handle, if I had a friend help me put it in.....

Are they hard to install by yourself?? I am not able to shell out a lot of money right now but know that this is important to take care of. My car is slowing down when I hit the gas b/c of the air and gas not knowing how to mix....

If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!

I just recently replaced mine with the universal one (69.99) and it was very simple to install. It comes with everything you need besides the wire strippers. Instructions and all. I have the same model car as you and she is running great now!

oh yeah and do not cut too close to the plug on the oem o2 sensor.... you may want to leave a little extra to work with and dont forget to reset your ECU.

i dont know if this is the same problem but i have a 2000 lx protege and im having similar problems. when i step on the gas the car takes a while to respond. also, when i turn on the A/C and the car is stopped at a light, it will shut off completely. i dont know whats the problem. i do have an intake and i think i read something that they casue problems but im wondering if someone knows how to fix this. mechanics dont know whats going on so they just give me a shrug. my idle is very low, and when the A/C is on it just goes to 0 and shuts off. its also unstable when im on idle.... someone please let me know what the deal is. thanks

all of you need to check your timing before replacing the 02.
