I know I can search for the answer, but do you have the mod the header at all for install or does it bolt right up?

it bolts up without any modification. correct me if i am wrong, alex, but i bet those springloaded bolts on the midpipe were the hardest part of the job.

glad to hear you like the header! whats your driving impressions of it?

Yeah the header bolts right on, we had a little scare with some real bad smoking on initial startup, but it turned out ok. The only bad part of the whole installation was a small gasket that you have to take off of the original exhaust manifold, its just poorly desinged, its made of metal wire and gets stuck on the old manifold. Overall installation is a breeze, I would recommend it to anyone, made auzziemp3s car sound wayyyyyy nicer.

Freaking insanely awesome night alex

yeah the hardes part yep, but i also the gasket between end of the header and the beging of the exhaust, like the little pipe, that small thing it was a bitch to get it off it was some wire mesh deal but i got it off and put it on, other than that it was a sucessfull installation! love it!

You should definitely feel some gains up top in the powerband.Yo, Ken. I know this has been beaten to death, but have you guys or anyone on this forum gotten a car dynoed after the OBX header/DP was installed?

That thing is called a donut gasket. All you have to do is buy a donut gasket at a exhuast shop for around $20. If you have the extra $20 it is worth getting one instead of using the old stock one. Plus The obx header comes with 2 o2 sensors bungs but you DO NOT WANT to use the 2nd o2 senor bung. You will get a check engine light. You will not be able to pass emissions with it on. You can extend the 2nd 02 sensor wire and get a bung welded behind your main cat then put your 2nd o2 sensor in the new bung and plug the 2nd bung on your header. It will cost around $20-30 to get the bung welded at exhuast shop. This will make CEL go away and not come back. The CEL code is pre cat warm up error or somethinganother because your precat is no longer there because of header. good luck. hope this helps.

its not like, "OMG MY P5 IS SO FAST!" but it feels much smoother and it definitely pulls harder. the power difference is very noticeable.

visually and physicallly your removing the restrictive cat, and your lightening the car because the stock header is a BEAST compared to the obx, no one has numbers but i am sure of a gain. theres no question that it would HURT performance in any way eaither.

not 'putter' as in a hoopty sounding putt-putt.

I'm hoping for a smoother pull after 4,000 rpm. Also I hope the removal of the precat helps gas mileage.

the obx probably weighs 1/4 of what the stock header does. its ridiculous how heavy the stock one was.

Also, does driving around with a CEL cause a limp mode on the ECU or will it just be an irritating light until I do something about it?

as proof of this...on my trip to wisconsin from ohio last weekend, averaged over 32 mpg. but thats with my shorty wagner, injen CAI, and RB cat-back.

but overall im impressed with the 32 mpg, especially since i was cruising at 90-95 the whole way...

obx should be even better than that.

it has a bung for the 02 sensor to plug into, but you have to wire up a MIL/CEL fix which is not hard at all.

both o2 sensors will plug into the header

might still fail a visual inspection however....if they see that a cat has been removed, they may fail you, even if it passes a sniffer....

Captain KRM P5
09-14-2004, 12:40 PM
since your car is obd2 they should not use a sniffer exam

plug a scanner into the port under the drivers side dash.

wannabe
09-14-2004, 01:09 PM
so how would a header affect this type of scan? is it just reading the results from the o2 sensors? or is it coming from somewhere else?

if theres and MIL fix, is that gonna f-up the scan?

not really worried...just curious.

dosle
09-14-2004, 01:10 PM
the mil fix will trick the o2 sensor into thinking its all good so no code will be thrown.

Allright-first off I'm a girl that has no idea what you are talking about. Why am I here? Husband just put header in his 2001 MP3, CEL has been on for months. Did not pass PA inspection and is driving me nuts b/c he can't drive his car. He has explained to me that with the removal of cat. con. the sensor that picks up engine temp is not reading a high enough temp and that's why it didn't pass. He wants to rip everything off the car and put it back to factory. In an effort to save the car I decided to see if anyone else had a prob with the sensors and how to fix it. However I do not understand anything that you suggest to the other people. I'm doing this b/c my husband does not use computers so once I get an answer then he'll read it. Thanks for any help in advance.
