View Full Version : Supercharged Si slow?

My friend recently purchased a Jackson racing supercharger kit for his 2002 Si. The install was pretty decent, I offered to help but he had another friend finish the install. The kit uses a M62 Eaton blower and the new "powercard" for engine management. From what I could tell the powercard is just a fancy FMU with lights on it, and still relies on a vaccuum line and dumping gross amounts of fuel. He dynoed at 147whp and 150wtrq at 6.5 psi. I couldn't be more dissapointed with Jackson racing as a former JR user myself.
Before racing he was a bit cocky about having boost. In previous races against the SI with an intake, my P5 held up great against it. From a dig to the top of 2nd I'd be ahead about a fender, then he'd finally put about a car on me by the top of 3rd gear. NOW, with the supercharger, he barely put a car on me by the top of 2nd and put about 2-3 cars on me by the top of 3rd. We raced many times and even drove each other's cars. After the race he was really dissapointed in the JR kit and I tried to tell him that getting the kit on is only half the work, tuning is the other.
So....about 15hp and and 20trq for $2,200....the power of dreams...

Yeah, poor guy....I was trying to be "encouraging" afterward.
Personally, I'd call Jackson Racing with the fury of God in my voice...

Thats crap. Something has to be wrong there.I thought that too, at first I assumed there was a boost leak. But on the dyno they hooked up a boost guage and it held boost from 6.5psi to about 6.9psi at fuel cut.

That doesn't sound right buddy..My friend has a JR'd GSR and he has over 200whp..He is running low 14's with it..So unless your buddy just supercharged a beat up 1.6L..something doesn't sound right.

Maybe lost compression in a cyclinder? But that would be noticable.

Remember, it's a 2002 SI, so that's K-series powa'. It's under 30,000 miles, ran like it should have stock. It was a 15.9 with an intake. The blower is working correctly, I can hear the bybasses in the blower open, and is functioning correctly. I'm really dissapointed in JR again...

oh yeah thats right! its a k-block..dude i saw a turbo K block that was running like high 13's..I don't know what the deal is with this k20's..but they just DO NOT make power..It's not JR's problem man..6.5lbs of boost is 6.5lbs of boost..Tell your friend to either a. apply a real method of forced induction, or b. sell the car.

The ports are nice and i-Vtec is pretty neato. The head flows much better than the B series. In the following months I think we'll see some evil K-series with the recent release of Hondata for K-series motors.
6.5 of boost does not equal a set amount of power per application. Not only does compressor size determine the power, but with a supercharger, it requires alot of hp to turn that nose pulley on the blower.

No I know what your saying. But it's not JR's fault that those civics just don't make power. Yeah, the Turbo K20 featured in SCC a few months ago have more money in it than most pro-stock drag cars..and it was only making 300-350hp..not a big number for the money invested..Sure the motor is better for boost..but the whole set up is still a gigantic money pit in which you'll never be happy..Although the turbo GSR is a lot of fun to drive.

The turbo kits for the RSX-S's are only $2599. The new K-pro is around $900 right? With another $1,000 in supporting parts (downpipe, injectors), I dunno why it'd be hard to make 300 hp. Off to the RSX board I go so I know for sure what I'm talking about next time this comes up. heh :p

You won't make 300hp..The sheer volume of work done to that k20 civic only produced 380whp on their "high boost" setting..And that was a full managed system.

that blows...or wait, maybe it doesnt and thats the problem ;)
