Just doing a little market research here trying to see how the demand is for the AutoExe style grill. From what I read, there don't seem to be too many places selling these grills for the 99-00 Protege.

I am not trying to sell anything here, just want to see how much of a demand there is. Our company are able to produce this grill, but just want to make sure that there is a demand for them first before we start producing them.

Our quality is very good, we have produced grills for many cars before and we even paint them.

A grill will probably be around $110-130 (shipping included) and $50 extra to get it painted.

Please check out our site to see some of the products we have.

Also, can you tell me how the demand is for this grill?

http://www.silviaparts.com/mp5/1.jpg
that appears to be a mp3/mp5/msp grill. those grills fit only on those cars.

however the sedan is a bit different, and the 99/00 style differs because of the different hood style and of course the bumper and headlights.

that very first picture you posted is a picture of the grill for the 99/00 grill. if you could make that grill, i am sure many people would buy it as the grill is very hard to get. if it helps it is also known as the grill that will fit a 99/00 sport20.

good luck, i want to see this happen.

I have searched for many pictures of the dx/es/lx Protege and I really don't understand why this grill will not fit it. I asked another bodykit shop that we work with, and the guy told me that the mp3/mp5 grill will fit this car. Then, I am hearing you guys say otherwise. I will have to look into it a little more, if anyone can explain to me, that would really be appreicated.

99-00 grill will be in progress very shortly, we just have to produce the mold first. I will keep you guys updated on that.

Thank you for all your help.

You would think it would fit, they look almost identical....until you try and put that grill in the sedan....then you see the problem

the fitment is WAY off, while they look the same, its not.

you can see a pic of it in my sig...

If you can ship to quebec I'd buy one tomorrow! And you should post on www.clubprotegequebec.com (http://www.clubprotegequebec.com) we are lotta people with 99-00 sedan and I read 2 or 3 posts before about how it was bad that there is no grill for our protege. You can post in english even if we all are from quebec, you'll be more than welcome! I'm pretty sure you'll find at least 7-8 buyers on our forum, and I'd be pleased to be one of those. Good luck with the sales!

Thank you for all the responses. I really would like to make the grill, but it's not that easy to create a new product. There are a lot of things to consider and such and lots of problems that I need to get out of the way before I can go ahead and make a grill. I will try my best and see what I can do on it. I will post any updates that I have.

Just one question. So the mp3/mp5 grill are the same as the es/lx/dx grill in the front (size and shape wise)? The only difference is on the back right?

SpicyMchaggis
09-05-2004, 03:04 AM
No, they look somewhat similar, but the fitment is way the hell off.

silviaparts.com
09-05-2004, 11:49 AM
so can someone tell me is this a mp3 or es/lx/dx model? It's called the 323 in Hong Kong, but that doesn't tell me much.

http://www.silviaparts.com/323-00.jpg

I am really sorry for all these questions. I am mostly an expert on Silvia, and have never looked into Protege before, and they are really confusing me with all these models that basically look the same.

Aaron23
09-05-2004, 12:23 PM
The model on the top left is the most like the US 01-03 protege's grill. That woule be a good one to make. I'm not sure it is exactly the same but it looks similar to it.

nate0123
09-05-2004, 12:43 PM
your best bet would be to find an 01-03 sedan in your area willing to let you use their car to test-fit

I don't think the 323 grill will match right... the bumper is much shallower since they don't have to meet the same frontal impact requirements as the US model

plus, according to erebuni website, you have to run one of their grills if you install one of their front bumpers on a protege, which leads me to believe they're different

Sorry guys, have been really busy lately and didn't get to check here for a while.

The 99-00 grill is ready, fitment was rather good as the test fit was done.

Regarding the 01-03 grill, it's very difficult. Reason is that the stock grill is pretty flat, but I am sure that if we make an aftermarket one, people would want it to stick out a little, which is hard, because we need to find an actual car in Hong Kong to do that. Please let me know if you guys have any suggestions. Thanks.

With the AutoExe style grill, the top of the grill won't need to come out any, as that should maintain the same flushness with the hood line. The bottom and sides should come out some, but the edges are really pretty planar, and can probably be extended along the existing planes. What you'd need is for someone here to measure the distance from their stock grill to the front of the bottom inside corner on each side. Might take 2 or 3 tries to get right, but I don't think it would be so difficult.

Here is the 99-00 grill test fit results. The price is $99 shipped, $150 if you want it painted and shipped. Sorry that it's not on our site yet, there's too much going on with our company right now that we haven't had time to modify our website yet.

Mineroller pointed out several issues with fitment. Have these been addressed yet?

I'm glad to see that someone is finally taking on these projects. Thanks!

Keep us posted on the progress with both the 99-00 and 01-03 models, and LMK if you want my grill to experiment with.

I hate to do this, but I'll have to drop from the list.. I damaged my front bumper and i'm going to get a Mazdaspeed bumper to replace it... I still wanna see what it looks like when done. I'll still end up getting the autoexe style grill for the Mspeed bumper, though.
