This is apparently distributed to dealers. Not a whole lot of info, but the concept pictures are neat. It also shows how Mazda feels the car stacks up to competitors.

Anybody notice that the concept drawings borrow from both the Lancer Evo and the Subaru WRX Prodrive version. It looks like its got a hood off of an evo and a spolier from the j-spec prodrive wrx version. If they made the real car exactly like the concept except in black with carbon fiber tails that would be one bad ass car.

It seems that much of the modifications on the concept car were left out due to cost concerns. Developing things like the mirrors and unique tailights would surely drive the Mazdaspeed Protege price up. Maybe if the Mazdaspeed Protege sells well we'll see an "A-spec" model or something with the added features and higher price? Maybe the hood and wing will be available as Mazdaspeed-branded accessories? And how about a FMIC kit while they're at it? I'm excited to see what kind of stuff is in the Mazdaspeed catalog.

Man I want that hood!!!!!!!
LOOKS LIKE A BABY EVO!
I can't beleive that out of 1750 cars, 600 are going to be orange, and the rest black, and all canada gets is orange. I mean come on, 1150 black ones, and Canada can't get 1?

btw, my dealer was told by his mazda rep that there's gonna be a 2nd wave for canada feb-april sometime with new colours.. yellow and charcoal (mazda canada rep on the phone said yellow and silver) obviously this is referring to the titanium grey metallic that's been rumoured.. hehe

well.. contacted a couple diff service depts and parts depts at diff dealers to see if anyone had the slightest idea as to how one would track down information on that baby evo hood... like whether or not they ever produced a prototype or anything, and whether it would be possible to special order one... which i really really doubted... all the ppl i spoke to told me that would be HARD to track down.. and if they even made any you would probably be better off contacting the magazine and seeing where they got their info....
i'll continue the quest... and I wanna take a poll if at all possible... If the person I know from TC Spoiler were to make a copy of that hood in either carbon fibre or just like the stock one... how many people would SERIOUSLY be interested... and i say SERIOUSLY because i dont want someone to say ya maybe i'll buy one.... because if they make a custom mold, they are gonna want to sell atleast a few.. not have people end up flaking...
so if you would be interested.. let me know

i would definitely be interested. I planned on getting a protege hood from a junk yard and a EVO style vent from erebuni and having it put together but if someone made one from a mold specially for our car that would probably be better. Perhaps better looking, lighter, cheaper.......etc.......

What might the approx cost be. I love the look of that artistic impression. Ideally I would want in the stock color. Great idea.

Hey! Just wondering but did anyone see the little 1 and 2 next to the 1/4 mile times and 0-60 times??? I am thinking that the MS Protege is made to look better because it was probably times with a charged engine in the mag 1 and the other 3 look so much slower cause the times are from the different mag where the cars were more likely not charged.
Again not trying to shatter the view of the car. Just want a real comparison!!!

What do you mean "charged"? The times for the MSP were taken from Car & Driver because they were the first ones to test it. I'm sure they would have taken times from Road & Track for all the cars if they were available.
Those are reasonable times for all the cars compared. In fact, some other mags have gotten better times with the MSP and worse times with the other three than were shown here.

oh of course...
they had to draw the "altezzas" on there. the only thing worse than altezzas is people that use duct tape or other shiny adhesives to get the ghetto altezza appearance. i have seen it done on a mercury marquis..... enough said

Excellent scan. I got the FUEL mag today as well from the dealer, as well as the newest brochure. Just called my contact again at the local dealer with "no news" again. Damn, I sure wish they'd get here soon.

yeah, that sux that the only kit that was ever produced to match those blueprints of MSP went on a P5 :)
look at the front bumper......it's the exact match.

http://www.msprotege.com/members/Dr.Sound/cool%20p5%202.jpg
the sides have the same wide-body kit.
and the rear bumper is almost the same, except the P5 has a dual exhaust.

This is a seriously old thread. One interesting thing though is I think that Philly-Orange's car looks a lot like the sketches of the MSP, although his hood is carbon fiber.

Wow.. old thread, but i never read it so im glad it got brought back for a few reasons.
1st.. They had an FMIC in the concept.. what happened to that. :(
2nd. The front bumper.. wow. Im not a big fan of spending money on appearance.. but damn if could get my hands on that bumper, i would in a heartbeat.... effin BAD..

I dunno if this has been posted on here yet. I was at the dealer on wednesday and there was a new mazda fuel thing and there was an article about the msp. They were talking about how it was attracting young buyers making honda and toyota envious. They also featured a spicy orange msp, I think it may be someone's from this board. I think they also mentioned the MOCC saying the the person was a member of it. Anyone else read it?

Actually Mazda did make at least 1 of the cars in the drawing.
I ran into it a few years back at a race in Pomona.
It was identical except for the hood, wing and no alteezas.
I have some pics but my scanner broke.
I'll see if i can find another way to post 'em.

I so want that bodykit...on the concept MSP. I would def buy one if someone comes out with it...the flares, break duct and the FMIC makes it look badass. The exhaust and rear looks very unique. Altezzas are ghey. But the car looks beautiful and the concept looks amazing. And this thread was brought up from the dead.
Maybe find a bodykit company that would take on this task...cuz I think someone posted about making a body kit for the speed and everyone suggested WRX looks parts...which look like ass on the speed. This is unique. I wouldnt mind paying for someong that looks this nice.
Please post pics if you have the pics! I will probally one day search them down and findout where they got it. Im not a huge fan of bodykits and looks but his looks awsome.

I'm glad someone dug this up. I plan on keeping my MSP forever, and will eventually show it, so this historical stuff is good to have.

Another thing...
At that time Mazda had it badged as a 323.
