installing a deck

I know this has probably been discussed before, and I apologise for repeating it.

My fiance wants to put a deck in my car when I get it in October, the only thing is I dont want to lose the clock part(I'm vehicle illiterate so excuse the fact that I know nothing about vehicles)

Will the clock not work with the stock cd player removed?
