Ok, i was in a rush to get an oil change on thursday and didn't feel like going to the dealer so i went to jiffy lube, i used to go there with my old car and never had any problems. So i get the oil change and everythings fine, so i then drive down the shore to my friends school, about 100miles away. Ok fine no probs. So today we get up and go to the shore, so i'm driving down the parkway pulling away from a toll plaza and i see a lot of smoke behind me, i pulled over real quick, looked behind my car and saw nothing, then i looked under and i see that the exhaust is covered in liquid and its pooring out from the front. At this point i'm like omg wtf is wrong. I turn off my car and check out the liquid, turns out its oil.

So the tow truck driver gets there and we look at it as we're lifting it up and it turns out that my oil drain plug is gone. So i get it towed to some shop and they get me the part and fill me back up with synthetic and check everything out, no knocking or anything, i guess i turned the car off fast enough where it couldn't cause any damage.

So my guess is they didn't tighten the damn plug enough when they did my oil change. I'm going to call them tomorrow and have them pay for the bill.

Thank god i saw the smoke fast enough and pulled over b4 there was any damage.

What do you guys think, will they pay for my bill($160) for the tow and oil change and give me the money back for the oil change($55) they did.

BTW- when i was on the side of the road there was a blue 2003.5 msp that honked as they went by is that anyone on the board here??

sorry to hear that but not surprised.

was the $55 bill at jiffy lube or the other shop. kinda hard to understand from the sentence.

Jiffy lube was responsable for my GF's car loosing an engine. They do shoddy work and I woudn't just them with a moped.

umm, thats weird that it just happened to fall off 100 miles later. and if the oil plug was GONE, i find it hard to believe you didnt sieze up or notice the flashing CEL...
with no oil pressure, the CEL should have been blinking.

Oil starvation to the turbo for even a few seconds could effect the life of the turbo.

and the engine itself, which is why im surprised it is still RUNNING.

did a CEL come on?
anything ODD happen?

you need to know because that could tell a story down the road...

hope you didn't kill your bearing.

Damn, one reason I dont go to jiffy lube: Oil Drain Plug.

I have heard stories of them being sued numerous times because they either dont screw the plug tight or just plain forget to put it on!!!

Id rather make a mess in my garage then have someone else change my oil, even though its a pain in the ass to get to the filter!!!

no that is the weird part, the CEL didn't come on while i saw the smoke and as soon as i saw it i pulled over and shut off the car. Maybe I didn't loose enough oil to cause it to go on or to cause any damage.

After i got to the shop and they put oil back in and started the car up and it was fine.

the mechanic at the shop said he wouldn't be too worried because the tests that they show on tv with the cars running without oil are real and he said he used to work for mobile 1, and they tested cars and had one run 280 miles with no oil after using synthetic.

But i'm going to go to jiffy lube today and tell them what happened and see what they are going to do about it.

I hope it didn't do any damage to the turbo. But everything is running fine now.

Jiffy Lube is staffed primarily with idiot ricers who like the idea that they "work on cars". Check out the employee parking lot at you local Jiffy Lube, as it will most likely be your area's "Shitty Honda and Acura Owners Club" meeting area. They suck, don't trust them.

Never really had problems either expect one shop for some reason disconnected a plug. Someone had to disconnect it as the plug is very very snug, and beside me and my roommate no one else had been under the engine.
They can be good, but there are some shops out there that are just really bad, like some dealerships.

Were you on the parkway the night b4, pulled over by a cop? I saw another blue msp that was, when i was going down to my friends school.

the only reason for the check engine light to be flashing because of loss of oil would be if it caused the engine to misfire.

I highly dought that they'll do anything. It has to be the same day they did the oil change. I had a friend that went to a JiffyLube for an oil change and a top off on all the fluid.

I guess they got the lines mixed up and put oil in his radiator. He drove the car for 2-3days and of course the car started acting all weird. He checked all the fluids and sure enough in the overflow tank there was lots of oil. He took it back and they denied any service on his car. He ended up trading the car in for something before it died. (2thumbs)

Good luck, just bitch a lot. Call the cops too, just to be safe. Plus it gets people to tell the truth.

cops is a good idea, or call the news paper or something, that's a good threat. (even better tell them you have a best friend who WRITES for the paper or who IS a cop, they should (kissass) NP )

Mazda Roadside wouldn't cover the tow?

Mazda Roadside wouldn't cover the tow?

parkway is restricted to their own towing companies, mazda roadside said they would refund me the money.

I talked to jiffy lube today and they said they will take care of the whole bill.

Also insurance is going to cover the towing also. So i am getting about an extra 150 for my trouble.

There might be an inherent problem with the Mazda Speed and drain plugs falling out. It's being looked into more and these just aren't falling out minutes after an oil change, many miles later. This is the 3rd or 4th one I've read about and considering how many made this could very well be a problem that is derived from the stiffness of the chassis (with bars) and curvy roads.

I have thought this myself, with all the people losing their plugs, something has to be causing it. I now religiously watch how the driveway looks when I back out my car from anywhere!

well now its my turn to bring up a thread from the grave. my dumbass decided to go to jiffy lube and get an oil change for once, extra pocket money and lazy = teh suxorz. got it on sunday and its tuesday well wed, now that im writing it. but yesterday as im dropping off my friend my oil light comes on, i say FUCK I KNEW IT. drive to the closest gas station WHICH happens to be next to the jiffy lube i got the oil change. as soon as i turn the corner the car shuts off. me and him ended up pushing it for a little bit. pop the hood check the oil level.......dry as a bone actually with probably like 5cm's of the stick covered in oil. i didnt even dare to turn it back on. i look under the car. he helps jack up the car we go under......and of course whats missing the plug of course. i go fucking crazy and start cussing like no other. The people at the gas station give me funny looks. the guy who works there comes out looks at me and my car, asks if i needed help. i say go open jiffy lube so i can kick some ass. its like 10pm of course its closed. he walks back in. ARGH i fucking had a weird feeling as i got home sunday. i checked my oil it was fine looked under the car nothing leaking. i obviously had to happen between monday and yesterday. i manage to get the 1800 number for jiffy lube leave two long messages. call joe(ghettowagon) to come help push the car to the jiffy lube lot. write a not. get home about 1hr later
call that exact jiffy lube so i can try to leave a message. they dont have a machine. they open in about 2 hours. can you guess where im going to be. :) .

Probably overtightened the plug and stripped it. That's why you should always, always change your own oil or at least take it back to Mazda.

i went to the one in centreville. well issued is like 80% resolved. got free checkup and what not i went down to the pit to make sure its tightened this time. free carwash next door. and a free oil change next time. and since my mom was with me to drop me off she got a free one too. all in all it was good. im still pissed. now my car seems to have more UMPH like its i dont know just sounds weird. i guess when it tried to turn over without oil it was a no no. and yeah i just am a little scared hoping it goes away :(. if someone nearby wants to hear it and help me out or give me sugestions im all ears

my sister has an 02 protege and she went to a jiffy lube and the same problem happened. oil drain plug fell out but it came off like a month after the oil change. she had to replace the engine. of course they covered for all the charges. they better have because it was there fault! car is definately not the same though...
