Hi,

I noticed on my 2002 P5 that my car is making an annoying chirping sound. The sound seems to be coming from the passenger side of the engine, near the firewall.

It seems to be coming from quite low, since when I look from underneath, near the wheel/passenger door, I can hear it quite well.

Also, if I give gas, the sound does not disappear or change speed. I also turned off the fan & A/C and that made no difference.

Any ideas?

Thanks

M.

Does the car need to be moving? If not, I say it's an exhaust gasket.

Hi. No, not moving. I cannot confirm if it does it when moving. But when idle or revving it does it.

mine chirp'ed for about a week only during idle. when i got on the gas, it went away. but it was also from the passenger side. i pressed down on the coil packs and it went away but then the next time i tried it, it didn't work. that was about a month ago and i haven't heard it since.

Id pull the coil pack off and make sure the plug is tight!

i'll check it this afternoon. spark plugs are supposed to be 11 ft/lb?

edit: i just read 11 - 16 ft/lb.

have you checked your belt tension?

my chirp came back so i checked my plugs, they're fine. it almost sounds like some sort of air bubble, like it's in liquid. very wierd. but it only happens at idle. once you step on the gas, even a little, it's gone.
