To my knowledge this started happening like 2 days ago but who knows for sure. Not I'm not sure if this is the "klunk" that everyone has talked about so much cause I never read those threads (didnt have it.)

So far it only happens after the car has been sitting still for a while. Like yesterday I moved my car to wash it and JUST as I get on the gas and the car begins to roll I hear a large Klunk sound from behind me, possible left side. The car sits for a while and I move it again, same sound JUST as it starts to move then nothing (Both times I started in reverse.) Now after I heard it I would pull forward, back up again, and the sound would never occur.

Then today I went to drive it again (its been sitting for 1 day +) I put it in reverse and it happens again only much louder. It sounded like it was comming from the left hand side of the car I think. I heard it clearly but could not tell if it was comming from the wheelwell or something else in the rear. It sounds like 2 metal peices engauging or something like that. But then again i drive it around again back and fourth and no sound. I got back in it after several drive breaks and no sound ever.

All throughout the day ive been trying to make the sound again, and I get nothing. I've tried shaking the car and sometimes after the car has sat I get a very small klunk from the right rear wheel/shox but it doesnt sound like the big klunk I am explaining.

What on earth could this be?

This is due to rusty rotors, mine does this too after letting it set for a while. Usually on one side depending on which way the wind was blowing when it rained.

i've had the same sound, it sounds as if the e-brake is stuck or something and you pop it loose, even tho i know that's not what it is.

Yeah Goth it also reminded me of a rear brake sound.

Hmmm that is interesting I totally forgot about brake rotors...that may be it. Although I was looking at my rotors and didn't notice much rust at all on them but Ill take a closer look.

I would be very relieved if it was just that but we shall see. Im also interested in some other opinions too if they are out there.

Definitely the rotors. Mine does the same thing after a good rain storm. My car is usually on an incline in my driveway and when I release the e-brake and give the car some gas, I hear the loud pop of the rust breaking loose.

My wifes Celica used to do the same thing after it sat for a while.

Nothing to worry about.

Ah excellent info indeed!

Consider this thread over, unless my wheel falls off one day (scratch).

But thanks again for the info.

Probably is the rotors. I have a DX i have no rears, so no noise for me.

well mine did it all the time when i was in reverse cutting the wheel but i only noticed it in the winter time now that you mention it, so the rust is a very very good possibility.

Had the same thing happen to me a few times over the winter in Ottawa. It also happened in the spring once after the car sat for a week while we were on vacation out of the country (Air Canada wouldn't let me bring it on board as carry on luggage!).
