Is the 2.0L motor in the 2001 Protégé ES considered to be an 'FS' series motor? I am looking to purchase the HiBoost turbo kit but it is listed as fitting only 2002+ Protégé’s and the FS series of motors. MSN Autos tells me the 2001 2.0L and 2002 2.0L have slightly different displacement, bore, and stroke. I imagine this would mean different engine codes as well?

The nice folk at 'Protégé Garage' tell me that it will fit the 2001, but generally I don’t like to take advice on a purchase from the people that are in a position to profit from my purchase.

Are there any members here with a HiBoost kit on a 2001 ES 2.0L?

P.S. Your site looks great! I'm Happy to be a new member here.

Yes. Identical. All 2.0L Proteges 2001-2003, same FS-DE.

Yeah, all of the 2.0L are basically the same. The MP3 had a different intake manifold and ECU, but you don't need to worry about that, since you've got an ES. =)

The only thing that might be an issue would be fitment of the FMIC. I say maybe, because it could be the same body style. However, it is also possible that something (a/c line, compressor, fan) was moved from '01 to '02. Best bet is to visit the regional threads for your area on this website, find local owners, and compare engine bays. We're all pretty nice folks on here.

you are going to have to do a little more work on installing the FMIC for sure.... My old LX bumper is a lot smaller depth wise than the MP3/MSP/P5 front bumper. Thats why I went ahead and converted it(along with the rest of the car). The kit will fit just fine though. :) So boost away, I know Im going to. ;)
