MS Protege Tranny/LSD

Does anyone know if the MS Protege Tranny is fully compatible with the MP3???

Are there any real changes witht he MP3 tranny and the MS Protege tranny other than the LSD?

I'm wanting to either buy the LSD or the entire tranny when possible.

From what I hear, the only change to the tranny is the shifter and the LSD. No changes otherwise.

You mean LSD and clutch, surely. The shifter is the same, but is shorter in height due to the Sparco knob.

Yeah, what he said...... I left out the clutch because it not internal to the tranny..... the shifter is short, so it has changed, along with the knob. I was talking tranny internals and the shifter...

Hmmm which means if it has the same tranny we may have a lot of MSP owners on here in the near future having some problems too. :(

Maybe... hmm if it's the same tranny, then I'll just order the LSD. Any thoughts on whether I should get the aftermarket LSD's or the one from mazda?

Chances are you won't be able to get the one directly from Mazda. You may be able to go back to the manufacturer.

I think Mazdaspeed is selling an LSD. Migth want to check this avenue.

the MS has a diff clutch? What's diff about it?

It can handle more power, and the pressure plate is stiffer. It says it is "just" upgraded on the web site.... Just one of the 1000 mods they did to the car to make it handle 170+ HP.

The clutch is the same. They just added a stronger pressure plate so that it could grab the clutch better.

Once again, I dont know about Mazda offering the LSD. Of course, it IS completely swappable, so if you can find one intact at a Junkyard, go for it.
But consider the Quaiffe LSD, brand new and with a lower percentage allowable slip. This means tire wear would increase slightly if you drive hard cornering all the time (which almost no-one does).

For my money, I think the Quaife is definitely the one to get....altho I have always thought that to be one of the stranger company names! :D
