4 speed manual mp3

Umm yeah took the mp3 to dallas this weekend for HIN and the mazda sport compact nationals and on the way back i noticed that every time i shifted into third from second GGGRRRRRRRRIIIINNNNNNNNNNDDDDDDDDDD, so i said a few choice profanities and skipped 3rd the rest of the 4 hour drive home. Problem is that mazda replaced my tranny about 11k miles ago when they messed it up changing the clutch out, anyone know what kind of prices i'd be looking at for another trans? could i possibly find a mazdaspeed trans with lsd? or should i buy a ES or MP3 tranny and put an lsd in it while i have it out?

Looks like you have the same issue I've had for the last few months. No 3rd gear. It goes in just fine, but grinds the whole time. I am getting mine replaced today! A used tranny with low miles will be $450 +. For a used MSP tranny I got quoted fucking $1050!

Did they find the used tranny or did you buy it seperately and ask them to just install it?

They found it, and they are installing it now. I am at the shop now waiting on FedEx to deliver my clutch! They just arrived! (eekdance)

damn, that price on the MSP tranny sux....

sounds like it would almost be cheaper to find a used protege trans and put the LSD in it...

EVERYONE has had the 2nd to 3rd grind... or does it grind the whole time you are IN 3rd gear?

if only when you shift, then its a simple tranny oil change will fix it.. get some good stuff like Redline shockproof oils.

Yeah, I've never had a problem with 2-3, but 1-2 gives me troubles at times.

More likely a broken gear than the syncro. I believe I have a broken gear. It goes into gear fine, but just grinds the whole time in there. Anyway, my new tranny is in now. :) Go get yours man!

yeah, you definitely had a broken gear... but we dont know when and how much his grinds... mind grinded BADLY, when going into gear.. but now its all better

My tranny got fucked the hell up once.. 2nd gear synchros, 3rd gear synchros, and 3rd gear was broken.. it would still go in, but make a grind like crazy.. Mazda finally fixed it after like 5 trys.. the minute I got it back I put in Redline and its been good so far. :: knocks on wood ::

it only grinds going into 3rd gear, then its fine, im gonna try putting some synchromesh in it and crossing my fingers that it works

Yeah sounds like the sychros to me.. If its every time then its prob the synchros.. If its more intermittent, then I might start looking into checking the gears.

ah yes, i have also had this problem, i am on tranny numero three with less than 50,000 miles, last tranny i had replaced was messed up pretty badly.....the fork that engages after a certain speed to block out first was completely ripped off and resting in the bottom of the tranny, i was leaking a color fluid that no one could identify until someone realized it was oil with metal shards in it, and somehow i sheard off something in the tranny i believe they said it was the differential or something......i really don't know how all this happened, the dealership said i drive it above redline on a constant bases, but in fact i really have never taken it past redline once. And i drive it somewhat like a normal driver, not really racing the car at every red light, but on occasion having a little fun with it, like any normal car enthusiast would.....overall the tranny for the mp3/es sucks a$$

mine is just out of warranty and the 2nd to 3rd shift is getting harder with a more intermittent grind. Had it once already and the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th shiftforks were broke and car was stuck in 4th gear. Ended up burning the clutch driving to dealership that night, but they would not cover it saying I could have had it towed. 330 dollar trip to the dealership, but they did cover the forks. Only after did I find out that they issued an upgraded shift fork for 3rd and 4th,( found that on another thread). Oh well, 54,***and still going strong. Not bad for my first Mazda, and I am an *avid agressive driver. my .02 anyways.......
