View Full Version : Help, Stock pipes + Greddy Type S = Stalling

Did the nice little how-to today with mp3moose and it looks to be a very nice clean install. When starting it up, stalling is bad. If I give it gas and blow it off, it drops way down and dies. Idling is a very strange thing: the tach surges to 1100ish and drops down almost to zero endlessly, up down, up down up down....
making it harder or softer seems to have almost no effect on it. Also, the bov appears to be 'half opened' under idle, is this right??
It came with an extra spring but when I was removing the little screws holding the bov together to look at spring, two of them were stripped. I was very careful with them and I don't know how they got stripped (doughpoke (scratch) . Any help would be appreciated.
IIDDEEAASS??

Yeah, not much luck here. It seems to be working fine and no leaks around, but the valve isn't closing fast enough to keep the car running. Best guess is the wrong spring, but we can't test that theory.

We got it tight as far as it would go on hard, but then tried all the way soft and inbetween several places an nothing.

hmm only thing i would suggest is adding a quarter/s inside the bov. i think igdrasil did it and it stopped his stalling and rough idle.

ugh its pissing me off, it idles TERRIBLY when i turn it on, up down up down. the bov opens and closes opens and closes with the vac surging.... after a while it idles nice. but when i hit gas it falls back REAL low then does the little high-low dance again

nah got it used. its really pissing me off. basically- if i tighten it all the way, turkey is there and idles fine: makes sense b/c bov is doing nothing. but just as soon as i hear any sound from BOV at all, I get stalling problems. I assume its not a leak b/c it runs fine with BOV under full HARD setting. Also, followed mach3.5 how-to but used a few differant supplies that looked to be as close as I could find and my fucking BOV keeps falling off.
project is becoming huge pain in the ass and to be honest im sort of embarrassed I even started it.

haha its ok... and just a foot note.... when it is in full soft setting i can rev it up and get a pretty loud WHOOSH sound but it will of course plumet to 0 and stall. However, like I said im getting a whoosh! this is not the typical greddy type s sound AT ALL. I saw and heard star 80s at stock boost and this is definitly not a TYPE S style sound. ugh i hate my msp at the moment.

sweet!
Yeah, switched to the smaller spring and the valve stays closed at idol but doesn't open at all under load. This is all besides the fact that it wont stay attached.
