Any suggestions for the oil? First time I have changed oil in this car (this car is brand new to me) so I have no idea what oil it takes. The manual said 10W-30, but that doesn't sound right. Also what oil filter to use?

5W-30 should be good all year round, although in the summer you probably wouldn't have any problems with 10W-30 since you're in a hot environment. Mobil1 is a good oil, but there are others. I used to use the Mobil1 filter, but now I just use the Pure1.

I would go with K&N or Pure One. The last couple of exchanges i didn't feel like ordering the K&N and just picked up the pure one. They both have the same effectiveness and are on top of the oil filter chain. The K&N is only better since it has grooves to use a socket wrench on.

the manual states either 10w30 or 5w30. 5w30 is a lighter weight oil so it gives better startup warmup performance, but for houston I suggest 10w30, since you don't have a cold winter to worry about engine warmup and short drives.

K&N gold filter and any 10w30 oil works for me. Any extra oil use on the girl on your avatar. I think shell chaffe her nipples if she keeps rubbing her tits like that. (lol2)

You live in Houston, so you'll never need 5W-30 unless you drive somewhere up north where it gets down close to 0 °F in the Winter.
Mobil1 10W-30 and a Mazda or Mobil1 or Purolator PureOne oil filter. Can't go wrong with any of them.

I use synthetic 5W-30 and an 02' WRX filter. It's bigger than the stock one so it will give you a bit more oil .

What do you guys think about the Mobil 1 15w-30 "high performance" oil. It says "super" on the bottle at least 10 times more than 10w-30 so it must be good! hahaha...Any down sides to running high viscosity oil? Any benefits? It would seem if 10w is better for heat than 15w would be even better.....???(wrc)

The 15 would be thicker during starts than the 10. If you don't live in cold climates, then stay with 10w-30. The Xw number only refers to cold starts and when the engine is warm, that number doesn't matter since it will be like the second number.

What weight oil does the owner's manual tell you to use? 0w20 seems to light but if that's what the book says than that's what the car was made for. I used it in my other car but just on track days trying to get every last HP out of the motor. It works but I wouldn't trust it for daily use unless the engine is built with that in mind.

I use mobil 1 full synthetic 5w-30. I used to use oem filters but I ran out so I grabbed a mobil 1 filter from autozone... Supposed to work best with synthetic oils. It cost me $10.xx so it better work damn well.

I was trying to ask the guy that was lost with his two posts. LOL yeah I use 10w30 of all brands normally what we have in the tool shed I've put flat 30 but didn't like it, usually castrol syntec. We have a lot of cars at my house so it comes out cheaper to pick up a case or two when their on sale. When we run out I'll get a few qts. of Royal Purple but if theres oil there I'll use whats there.
