yeah but damn it'll be cool to find out what kind of work they did to the engine, the guy said he's still using the 2.3L

Now, if only we could find out how much the engine build costs and what power it puts out would be nice. Because from the sounds of it, if build the motor NA costs the same as going turbo, I would love to have this baby NA!! And, the stress would be much less!! :)

Someone write and ask them what they are doing to the transmission to handle the power.
I am pretty sure I read somewhere they were using a beefed up 5 spd from the Focus, but I am not sure what is done to it...they couldn't use the 3's 5 spd b/c no one has aftermarket gear setups for it yet...

Well, thanks for the good words guys. I am thrilled to have this project under way. First off, let me introduce myself. My name is Vince Tiaga and I own a company called Golden Eagle Mfg. in San Dimas, CA. We do engine sleeving, building and CNC machining of automotive performance products for 4 cyl. engines. I am a member of Bergenholtz Racing which is part of the NHRA Sport Compact drag racing series.
We are a Mazda backed racing organization and currently have one car running in the series. It is a Mazda 6 that runs in the ProFWD class. The car is a turbo charged Mazda I4 2.3L engine that is producing approx. 1200 H.P. Current best times are 8.19 @ 187 MPH in the 1/4 mile.
The Mazda 3 which we are building will be competing in the all-motor category. We will also be using the Mazda I4 2.3L engine in that car, but with no power adders ( No nitrous, no turbo or supercharger ) It will be a full built engine that we are expecting to produce upwards of 400 H.P. to the ground. The bore and stroke of the motor will be altered to accuire a 2.55L displacement from the engine. The car is in work at Steen Chassis in Signal Hill, CA and is scheduled for it's maiden voyage down the drag strip Oct. 23-24, 2004 in Pomona, CA at the NHRA finals. www.NHRAImport.com If anyone has any questions about the car, our team, or anything else, please feel free to let me know anytime. I appreciate your enthusiasm on this project and I will keep you up to date on our progress. Thanks.

Very nice to see you here. I would just like to know more about the tranny of that Mazda6. What did you change or replace for it to handle 1200hp?

Actually, we are using a Fortin transmission from off-road. http://www.fortinracing.com/transaxles.html
We turned the motor to a longitudal postition in the chassis to acquire better weight over the drive axle. We have used this trans for 2 years and have had to do minimal maintenance on it!

Hmm, that's pretty nice! Done anything with 2.0L FS-DE motors? I am trying to reach 500+ HP with the Thumper turbo kit that Mental Addiction Motorsports is desigining on my 2002 Protege5. It's no where near that Mazda6 but our focus is to keep it streetable and at stock weight. I bet your two companies could make some super sweet aftermarket parts for the Mazda market. PM me if you'd like me to get you in touch with MAM, I see the owner, Beau, quite often during the week.

I haven't done anything with the 2.0L FS-DE motors, but I can do anything! 500 h.p. is very doable for a street car. There are Honda 1.8L out there making over 600 on the street. The weak link is the drivetrain. There aren't alot of people making stuff for Mazda, yet!

Exactly! I had two extra trannies and I donated one to Mental Addiction to see if they can source something for it. Beau (the owner) has been looking for a good engine builder and I bet GoldenEagle would be a great choice. I am gonna talk to him today and I will mention your company...

This is the signage card that was produced for this car. It has a list of sponsors and an updated pic of the Mazda 3. I have some more pics I will get up soon. If you have any Q's, let me know. Enjoy!
